Up to 60,000 migrants surge into Spanish enclave Ceuta from Morocco
“The Fake ‘Invasion’ of Spain: What You Need to Know” 9 things you should know about the so-called ‘crisis’ of Moroccan migrants forcing their way into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta – and the hysterical response from the right in the U.S., UK, and EU.
Could you imagine that you hear/read that 57 people died during this and your first instinct is to worry about an invasion and not the conditions that caused the death of so many people? Where is their humanity?
I guess it’s caravan season
what are things 4 through 9
I have been suspicious since no news agency could say why it happened.
Respectfully, Mehdi, you’re sounding like Trump. There is nothing “fake” about nearly 50,000 migrants crossing Spain’s border illegally in 24 hours. Calling an undeniable border crisis fake only makes the anti-MAGA resistance look every bit as reality-denying as MAGA.
Was it FUNDED by the US/right, moving 50k people doesnt just happen
The coverage of the crisis in Ceuta really gives no humanity to the migrants For smugglers, the Moroccan government, the spanish opposition, and right wing european governments, these people are just tools they can push around for an agenda
People are replying to this arguing that because of how many of them there were and that most of them returned it’s a stunt? I think people don’t understand how big the migration crisis is, and how literally dire it was to stay in Ceuta also the argument is still treating these people like things
This reminds me of when Belarus did the same thing to Poland
That’s trump’s M.O.—using immigration to rile up the base. No one in his administration has humanity; they don’t consider migrants human. The only ‘h’ word that applies is ‘hate.’
1. Almost no one who stormed into Ceuta in the last days will get into the EU. 2. Hysteria in the wider EU over Ceuta will blow over. 3. The row over securing Ceuta will remain a political hot potato between PSOE, PP and Vox. 4. The bigger loser from this mess will be Morocco
And 5. There will be a lot of unhinged horseshit on the other site about Ceuta which will have very little relation to what is happening on the ground after Frontex and Guardia Civil seal the gates.
48'300 of the 50'000 immigrants that entered Ceuta are already back in Morocco. bsky.app/profile/elpa...
Has the BBC sent Chris 'I don't know' Mason over to report on what's not happening yet?
Well, the dead are quite big losers.
Can you expand on point 4 please?
I saw a post on here earlier today claiming it was a kind of flashmob organised on social media 🤷
The real issue on Ceuta is the lack of solidarity with a Member State under external attack for reasons of internal politics and political exploitation. Italy, Denmark, Finland, but also the von der Leyen Commission. Meanwhile, more than half have already returned to Morocco.
The speed with which several EU national governments called for suspending the Schengen agreement provisions towards Spain & condemned 🇪🇸 govt rather than displayed solidarity w/ another EU member shows that scoring domestic political points remains the priority, even in an emergency like this.
Ok so the story on Ceuta is: a bunch of Moroccans crossed the border (possibly with the encouragement of their government), 57 of them died, almost all of the rest went back to Morocco and somehow "Western Civilization" is the victim here?
It sounds to me like what happened is tens of thousands of Moroccans got tricked into doing something extremely dangerous (and many of them died) for nothing at all
And to go from Ceuta to peninsular Spain requires clearing Spanish passport control, and so only people regularly admissible into Schengen ports of entry are cleared to travel. Ceuta human smugglers can be controlled by Spain, but the Moroccan smugglers should be controlled by Morocco.
Hard to say exactly what the "story" out of Ceuta is. Too early to tell exactly what happened and what is going to come, but in the short term it seems like a crisis and a tragedy at the minimum (dozens dead, residents afraid, breakdown of order). In the long term, it might be not much of anything.
So much senseless death caused by our stubborn determination to enforce imaginary lines on imaginary maps
I've spent time in Morocco. It's a beautiful, desperate, country that survives mostly on tourism from the very countries that exploited it viciously over the previous 300 years. Migration is one of the only ways that the extracted wealth gets returned. This, though, has the hallmarks of a RW op.
The Right and Far Right are having a wonderful time with these events at #Ceuta, the autonomous territory of Spain on the North African coast, bordered by Morocco. It's their manna from heaven. A prefect opportunity to create anti-migrant propaganda, fire up hate and attack the 'other'.
Let's start with Ursula von der Layen, President of the European Commission, European People's Party (EPP)
“Ukraine warns against Russian disinformation seeking to exploit migration crisis in Ceuta Meanwhile, Ukrainian foreign minister Andrii Sybiha has warned against a “an intensive Russian propaganda campaign across Europe using pictures from Ceuta to sow destabilisation.” Same playbook as last time.
The US stands with the people of Spain by directly attacking Spain for allowing Spain to be invaded (also please don't look at a map or try and look up the history of Morocco and US relations with Israel or Western Sahara)
Gotta love some good old colonial imperialist holdovers
This unacceptable incident is a direct result of the Spanish Government’s deliberate efforts to stand against the fascism of Trump and Netanyahu. And for buying their gas from Algeria instead of the US. It’s a false flag op instigated by the AEI.
Bulgarian account here calling for migrants in Ceuta to be killed on the spot. Remember, this is the woke app.
It's clear that a few seconds of footage from Ceuta will cause unimaginable further brain damage to the median EU voter.
Oh the fash are on here too. They just don't get boosted by the algorithm.
Bluesky Elder is such a red flag sometimes.
And the most ardent users of this app will scroll by and do nothing about it as per usual
1/ The fact is that Ceuta, the Spanish exclave in Northern Africa now besieged by a flow of migrants, does not fully participate in Schengen free movement, meaning strict identity checks are legally required for anyone leaving the exclave for mainland Spain. ⬇️
2/ Checks on people leaving Ceuta remain in place as if it were an external Schengen border. Leaving for peninsular Spain by ferry or flight requires a mandatory identity check. But do note how a bunch of mindless politicians are jumping to the notion of a physically impossible migrant invasion. ⬇️
Thanks for pointing this out. You're the first. But it's sufficient to trigger MAGA, AfD, Reform dumbasses. Still very curious what happened here. This week a highway was named after Trump in Morocco. Feels like the US pulled off a GRU style operation to punish Spain.
exactly. It flags up posturing (like IT and FI), but in the overall reaction (and the reaction that didnt happen - no solidarisation with Spain) also shows just how big the 2015 trauma is in todays european mainstream bourgeois governments.
Understanding Ceuta requires understanding the geography: part of Spain/EU, special status requiring border checks, bordered on three sides by Morocco, and only ~14 km/9 miles from mainland Spain. Trump calling it an "invasion" is driven only by his dislike of Spain and its stance on the Iran war.
Moroccan forces beat back crowds with batons and tear gas at the gates of the Spanish city of Ceuta, seeking to prevent more from storming into the territory that juts into the Mediterranean from Morocco on a spit of sandy land reut.rs/4fxFQKW
The Spanish government's representative in Ceuta said 57 bodies were recovered on the Spanish side of the border and that there could be additional casualties on the Moroccan side. Some victims drowned while others were crushed reut.rs/4fxFQKW

At least 34 people have been killed at the border crossing between Ceuta and Morocco, amid the largest migration crisis since 2021 According to Spain’s Interior Ministry, around 50,000 migrants entered Spanish territory illegally, while more than 37,500 have already been returned to Morocco
