Senior GOP staff warn of 'rabid' young Republican cohort

politicsAug 1, 20263512,602

Senior Republican congressional staff told Politico they are alarmed that a new generation of young conservatives has become ideologically extreme and loyalty driven, with one senior staffer calling them "a generation of rabid, incompetent idiots." Politico sources including four senior GOP staffers, think tank scholars, Heritage expats, academics and up‑and‑coming young Republicans said organizations such as the Heritage Foundation have shifted toward a MAGA mold and in doing so attracted recruits more focused on sycophancy than competence. The report highlights the spread of "groypers," followers of Nick Fuentes, and cites examples such as a young Trump administration lawyer whose text messages revealed a self-described "Nazi streak" and a Heritage economist E.J. Antoni, whose deleted social posts prompted the White House to rescind a nomination. Young Republicans pushed back, with Marty Bertao, a College Republicans of America president, saying there is not a mass groyper problem, and Rachel Bovard of the Conservative Partnership Institute arguing anti‑Israel views are being labeled groyperism. Critics warned that declining merit and a tolerance for darker online ideologies could cripple the party's ability to govern over the next five to eight years. The immediate consequence Politico identifies is a fraying recruitment pipeline for policy talent in Washington, which could force Republican leaders to confront staffing and governance shortfalls if trends continue.

Not only did they absolutely beg for this, they made it so that “merit” was synonymous with being white so now you’re stuck with precisely the kind of moron who believes that. www.politico.com/news/magazin...

Everyone knows what the problem is: The organizations that bring young staffers to Washington, D.C. have spent the last decade prioritizing blind ideological loyalty instead of competence or intelligence,” said a senior GOP congressional staffer, granted anonymity to discuss sensitive personnel issues. “We have a generation of rabid, incompetent idiots.”

anyone taking even a casual look at young/college republican clubs knew what they were incubating for at least a generation

Yeah, when you spend decades being the snide white supremacist party and think every brown person is there doesn't deserve it and must be conspiracy you end up with forum chuds, nepo babies, and just plain shallow idiots. Fascism is historically the politics of morons.

A month before the election, I wrote about people in DC already warning about the quality of young GOP staffers falling off a cliff, and predicted it would keep getting worse. www.aaronrosspowell.com/3m2znbd5z4k2p

Feels like anyone who watched Young Republican clubs diving down the manosphere and racism rabbit hole over the last 15-20 years coulda seen this coming.

So what they are saying is that a non diverse , ageist , ideologically uniform group of people is a bad thing If only teh government hadn’t built a way of adjusting for that … thag they destroyed

And this is related too. Where do “the organizations that bring young [rightwing] staffers to DC” get their money? From the same billionaire class. The “organizations” are often thinktanks. That includes the antiscience thinktanks like Paragon. Billionaire money is crushing the public interest.

Howard Eissenstat9

This matches what I see in my students... the latest crop of conservative students are just hopelessly online, hopelessly guided by vibe and ideology, regardless of how smart they may be. The same might be true of my progressive students, but not nearly to the same degree

A hilarious admission that you can't actually find intelligent and competent people who have ideologies which accord with Republicans.

With apologies and a bit of scorn to Oliver Wendell Holmes II, frankly, one generstion of these rabid, incompetent idiots is enough.

You could say that about any business. This is why Gen X is exasperated. What the hell is wrong with you young folks? Don’t come at me with all your nonsense. I’ve seen you have meltdowns at changing a damn password.

The Republican Party has gone full mask-off Nazi; meanwhile the media narrative being pushed 24/7 is “ahhh! Democrats are being taken over by socialist radicals!!” and their terrifying examples are Miss Rachel, a doctor who wants you to have healthcare, and the friendliest mayor in American history.

not quite the same, but in some ways feels like a strange right wing mirror image of 90's left-leaning alternative figureheads who seemed poised to transform the cultural landscape but lacked the ability and understanding of how to do so. there's a similar incoherence and suicidal impulse here.

So nothing new then Republicans utilized the Southern Strategy in the 1960’s, becoming a vehicle for white supremacy, as a way to better win elections.
