Chad Gable defeated Penta to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam 2026 Night 2 in his hometown at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Penta had held the title for over five months, including a successful defense at WrestleMania 42, before Gable caught him with a grapevined Ankle Lock and forced a tap out. The victory is Gable’s first singles title in WWE after roughly three years of chasing the Intercontinental belt and close losses to Gunther and Sami Zayn. During the match Penta targeted Gable’s left arm and hit a Mexican Destroyer on the apron late in the bout, but Gable rallied to apply the submission. After the match Penta briefly took the belt back but returned it and raised Gable’s hand, and Gable addressed the hometown crowd following the win.
