Ariana Grande withdraws from West End role, to 'step back' from visibility

Ariana Grande will withdraw from the West End revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George and "take a step back from visibility" after her Eternal Sunshine world tour ends next month, her representative told People and producers. Empire Street Productions confirmed the Barbican production will proceed without Grande and said they give her decision "complete understanding and support"; no replacement has been named. Grande, 33, and Jonathan Bailey had been billed to appear together in the 2027 revival. Her team said the break responds to "endless, ongoing public scrutiny" of her appearance and health, and that Grande looks forward to finishing the tour "healthily and happily". The scrutiny intensified after the release of her new album Petal and its music video for the single "Petal," in which her character is told she is "not good enough," told she is "desperate," and finally takes a chainsaw to critics.
