GOP 'deal' collapses in Todd Blanche nomination fight
Is Todd Blanche’s nomination back on track after he allegedly “rescinded” the $1.8 billion slush fund & limited the tax immunity provision in the “settlement agreement” in Trump’s collusion w/the IRS & Treasury Dept.? There's no enforceability to what Blanche has done: youtu.be/Em09xu3UGxQ?...
A last-minute promise with no enforcement mechanism isn’t reform. It’s a favor to wavering senators. Confirm Blanche now, and Trump can quietly revive the whole arrangement later. Why should anyone trust a deal designed to disappear the moment the vote is over?
"These assurances are not worth the paper they're written on. They don’t pull back on the ongoing attempts to give the President, his family, and his affiliates unauthorized immunity from tax audits. They don’t do anything new to stop the President from trying to bring back the fund..."
Perhaps you could address one question that confuses many of us who have not been practicing attys. The Judge in the “Amici Case” determined the entire scheme was a fraud. Doesn’t the fraud finding automatically negate any legitimacy to the settlement?
Cornyn and Tillis don't care. They wanted to act tough but they were always going to vote to confirm him. They don't want to miss out on all the sweet post-Senate riches by pissing off the oligarchs and Trump.
Exactly. I don’t understand why Tillis and Cornyn are pretending this is what they asked for. It’s absurd! Trump must have offered them something and hey, maybe that’s what these scumbags wanted all along.
Girlfriend, I called both Cornyn and Tillis' offices this morning to leave a message for those losers.
Did Todd Blanche pull the wool over the eyes of Tillis and Cornyn? Or did they put on a dog and pony show of acting like they were fighting for some “concessions”?
Legalese, 10 min it gets good and at 13 min she goes off on trust me bro Blanche. Todd is acting as Trump and fail sons attorney representing them in the tax immunity for life agreement. It specifically says that it covers all of his affiliates and anybody that bows to him. Phang 🎯 Epstein Files
It’s all a lie! Listen to Katie explain it!
Update: We initially thought the Trump IRS settlement had been eliminated. It wasn’t. Part of it was eliminated. The biggest change is that Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche formally rescinded the proposed $1.776 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund,” a taxpayer-funded slush fund that was created as
part of Trump’s settlement with the IRS after he agreed to drop his lawsuit over the “leak of his tax returns”. The fund had drawn criticism because it would have compensated people claiming they were victims of government “weaponization,” including concerns that January 6 defendants would benefit.
A letter to a Senator is not legally binding
I'm so effing tired of blatant corruption.
He formally stated it would be rescinded, the actual order has not been issued.
The participants in the settlement (Trump) would have to sign the agreement. Think he's going to do that? Nothing's changed, there are so many holes in this agreement it is worthless. Cornyn and Tillis were never serious or THEY would have wrote a legally binding agreement.
This settlement is half the amount that would go to Medicare drug subsidies for the elderly.
Todd Blanche’s nomination to formally lead the Department of Justice appears to be back on track after two Republican holdouts signed off on a deal giving President Donald Trump and his family immunity from Internal Revenue Service audits. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...
No ethical Senator would vote to confirm the President's personal attorney as Attorney General.
It's funny how anybody thinks that this could possibly last past Trump's presidency. No law is permanent.
Smh. That's what this whole thing was about. Trump never cared that much about giving other people money, it was just a vehicle to get the tax immunity.
Every GOP senator that voted for him is just showing what crooks they are.
What a mess... Cornyn is 74 and Tillis is 65; why can’t they do the right thing and vote no then ride off into the sunset? Instead they’re showing themselves as crooks or cowards…🤮
So the man who is currently breaking the law by not releasing the Epstein files is going to be the head law enforcement person for the ppl?
Keep calling your senators. And remind them of all the other reasons Todd Blanche should never be AG.
Any Senator who approves Blanche is participating in hiding the Epstein files. Blanche is in violation of the Epstein Transparency Law and any approving Senator binds themself to that.
Two Old White Men protecting Old White Pedophiles. Let them know that's their legacy.
These senators should be and their legacy of bending the knee to a corrupt president will be remembered and stamped in history!
Call every one.. NO TO BLANCHE
Ted Cruz's office won't pick up. Cornyn's office did pick up and a sweet intern took down my objections to Blanche. #Texas
Probably too late, the payoffs have probably cleared in Cornyn & Tillis's offshore accounts
Tillis and Cornyn’s acceptance of a loophole-filled deal with Trump and Blanche reminds us that every prominent Republican politician who has stuck with Trump over the last decade is a traitor.
God help us with this guy as AG.
What are the odds that the Democrats will point this out in their campaigning for the midterms? (Especially in Senate races). The key goal for Democrats is to convert Trump’s off the chart disapproval into Demicratic votes.
I said this all along. They will fucking cave! They always always always do!! Greedy cowards. ALL of them 🤬🤬
It's pretty demoralizing that there are still a significant number of people that need to be reminded of this. They haven't been subtle.
So their resistance was cosplay. MAGAts are the worst.
If Republicans can give Trump crime family immunity from tax audits, can Democrats take that immunity away when they gain power?
"Where the I.R.S. previously made a point of regularly auditing whoever occupies the Oval Office, Mr. Trump has leveraged his control of the federal government to instead escape the scrutiny that every other modern president, not to mention every other regular taxpayer, has been subject to."
We may never know what deal was struck to make these two happy, but we can be certain it wasn't good for the people of our country to accept this weak deal that barely addresses the weaponization fund, but leaves the unprecedented tax immunity in place for Trump and his first family of grifters.
Because REPUBLICANS. A party of traitors.
"First, Democratic senators should kill the deal on the continuing resolution. Then they need to use the Blanche confirmation to highlight the truth that a Republican Senate will simply be a rubber stamp for Trump over the next two years." Now do it.
Why in hell is Schumer cutting deals now on a CR? WTF? And you wonder why Schumer has to spend $60 mil in Michigan to try to defend one of his stooges from being upset by a DSA candidate. $60 mil that should have been spent on Republicans! And you wonder why the DNC can't raise money? Schumer.
I do NOT want taxpayer money to convicted felons. A million dollars? Let Trump pay. He has billions.
The switcheroo on this one once Cornyn and Tillis are gone next year is gonna be epic www.wsj.com/politics/pol...
Will they even wait till next year? Didn’t RFK jr immediately go back on his word to Bill Cassidy?
I don't expect them to wait. Is there some new piece of info making you think they will? This is a free pass for Trump, nothing will stop him.
Why would they wait until next year? They're just trying to get Blanche in permanently, and then at some point after the November elections they'll shove through the whole thing with the MAGA terrorist stipends.
