Barack Obama turns 65

Barack Obama turns 65 today, born August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Obama served as a U.S. senator from Illinois (2005, 08) before becoming the nation’s 44th president and the first African American to hold the office, serving from 2009 to 2017. Voices celebrating the milestone include The Obama Foundation, which organized a public birthday card drive, and numerous well-wishers praising his leadership, empathy, and lasting inspiration. Some posts recalled lighter moments such as his bicycling trips and the tan suit anecdote, while at least one post contrasted his 2009 Nobel Peace Prize with criticism of his administration’s drone strike policy. Observers noted the birthday amid ongoing public reflections on his legacy and influence on civic engagement.
