The Atlanta Falcons and All-Pro running back Bijan Robinson agreed to a three-year extension worth up to $75 million, with $51 million guaranteed and a base value of $22.25 million per year, making Robinson the highest-paid running back in NFL history, league sources said. The 24-year-old Texas product led the NFL with 2,298 all-purpose yards last season and has 5,648 yards from scrimmage over the last three years, including 3,910 rushing yards in that span, behind only Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry. Team negotiations stretched for months and Robinson did not practice for most of the first week of training camp; the Falcons had already committed more than $290 million to core players this summer. Robinson is the third of Atlanta’s young stars to sign a long-term deal this offseason, joining wide receiver Drake London, who signed a four-year, $141 million extension on June 8, and tight end Kyle Pitts, who agreed to a three-year, $56 million extension on June 23; the team also extended guard Matthew Bergeron on August 1 to a four-year deal with $60 million guaranteed. Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski praised Robinson’s professionalism and game impact, and Robinson said at minicamp that he is “really excited to help lead this team and the offense to great heights” while aiming to top his career-best numbers and make his first playoff appearance. The contract reset the market for the running back position and follows Atlanta’s earlier exercise of Robinson’s fifth-year option, which would have kept him with the team through at least the 2027 season.
