The Odyssey, Nolan's epic, draws strong audience praise
Finally got around to seeing The Odyssey. Two chief thoughts, and many follow-ups. Firstly I wish Tom Stoppard or Carrie Fisher was alive because Nolan is a wonderful director who cannot write dialogue to save his life and badly needs a first-rate script doctor.

This is perfectly good material which made an extremely good film, but it makes the film’s relationship with Homer’s Odyssey at a double remove because Shay’s book is itself a very stretched reading of Homer.

"His dialogue is blunt so you can keep track of everything." I dunno, guys. I've watched a lot of confusing action movies with great dialogue, I don't think that's it.

Pal (she/they)6I haven’t seen it yet so i can believe this but I don’t think Nolan is bad at dialogue. or isn’t a real writer. He wrote his first two movies solo. Cowrote almost all of his others. He has problems, sometimes he loves an evocative line that makes no sense, but there’s great dialogue in his stuff

I liked The Odyssey. Like all other Nolan films, I’m looking forward to liking it a little more on every rewatch.
This is another complaint I have with The Odyssey: Not nearly enough dong in that movie. The Cyclops should be knocking people over with it.

Jake Christie1I love Nolan but he was a coward for not showing Cyclops dong. There are multiple shots where there *would* be dong in the frame, but of course a perfectly placed shadow covers it. Disappointing.
