Tour de France Femmes, Niewiadoma-Phinney wins on Mont Ventoux

Mont Ventoux is the decisive centrepiece for this year’s Tour de France Femmes and Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney arrives determined to challenge the climb’s Queen of the Mountains mark. Niewiadoma-Phinney has not yet won in 2026 but was a consistent force in the Classics, finishing second at Omloop Nieuwsblad, Strade Bianche and Amstel Gold Race, and she posted eighth at the Vuelta Femenina and third at the Tour de Suisse. Niewiadoma-Phinney told media in Lausanne that she felt she had prepared well and felt “ready to break Kim’s [Le Court-Pienaar] KoM on Mont Ventoux,” with Le Court-Pienaar acknowledging she holds the second-best time and saying “We are definitely going to break it.” As Canyon-SRAM’s leader she goes into the race alongside rivals Demi Vollering and Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, all targeting a second Tour de France Femmes win, but Niewiadoma-Phinney framed her goal as reaching the highest possible general classification while finishing the race with no regrets. She said the climb is iconic and long, predicted an early hard tempo and expected survival to the top rather than riders waiting for a late decisive move.
