Whitney Houston Barbie doll recreates 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' look

Mattel is releasing a Whitney Houston Signature Barbie that recreates the singer’s colorful 1987 look from the “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” music video, complete with a purple tank dress, colorful drop earrings, bright eye makeup and a microphone stand. The $60 collectible goes on sale August 8 at Target stores and online via Amazon, Walmart, Target and Mattel Creations. Pat Houston, executor of the Estate of Whitney E. Houston and president of the Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation, worked with Mattel’s design team alongside Primary Wave Music on the doll’s wardrobe and signature glam. Mattel will unveil the doll at the fifth annual Legacy of Love Gala in Atlanta, hosted by the Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation. The release joins Barbie Signature’s roster of musician and cultural-figure dolls that have included Tina Turner, Stevie Nicks, Gloria Estefan and Mariah Carey.

Saw her in the late '80s at Saratoga at the height of her fame. Worst concert ever. She stood still on stage, head bowed, no audience rapport. No emotion. Came ALIVE for recording a music video of I Wanna Dance with Somebody (that was a fun surprise), then reverted to this zombie state. Awful.
