Demi Vollering wins Tour de France Femmes again

Demi Vollering won the ninth and final stage on the Col d’Èze in Nice to claim her second Tour de France Femmes overall title, finishing 1 minute 18 seconds ahead of Kasia Niewiadoma. The decisive moves came on the steep Chemin du Vinaigrier where breakaway rider Isabella Holmgren was caught and Vollering and Niewiadoma went head to head; Niewiadoma launched a Mont Ventoux style attack but Vollering stayed on her wheel before breaking clear 600 metres from the top. The victory followed a heated row between the two riders after Saturday’s stage from Sisteron to Nice, when Niewiadoma accused Vollering’s FDJ United-Suez teammate Célia Gery of blocking her path. Vollering said she respected Niewiadoma but complained about an interview in which Niewiadoma criticized her teammates, and Vollering’s manager Stephen Delcourt publicly demanded an apology. FDJ United-Suez sports director Lars Boom said Gery was receiving death threats and defended the footage as showing Gery left space. Niewiadoma described Vollering as extremely strong and said she wanted to race fairly; the result makes Niewiadoma runner-up to Vollering after winning the race in 2024.

It's a great styles-make-fights matchup: Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney trails but she's hyper-aggressive and put in the top climbing performance in women's bike racing history on Friday. Demi Vollering is more conservative but she's bigger, stronger and more explosive over shorter climbs
