Kevin Smith to write Star Wars/Marvel crossover, Hope Assembles
The first-ever ‘STAR WARS’ and ‘MARVEL’ crossover comic book event is releasing in January 2027. • Written by Kevin Smith with art by David Marquez. • The story sees ‘A NEW HOPE’ take place on Earth-616 due to a reality-shattering spell. (via ew.com/star-wars-ma...)
But Star Wars was a long, LONG time ago. And not in our galaxy, I think they were far, far away.
That sounds so stupid But I guess here we are.
People can't handle their peas touching their mashed potatoes...you expect them to accept this?
On the one hand: "Who even asked for this?" On the other hand: Kevin Smith is exactly who I'd want to write this project
JUST AS PATTON OSWALT FORETOLD!!!!
Ok, now the leaks about the Marvel x Star Wars Millenium Falcon LEGO set makes way more sense.
“Thirty seven. My padawan killed thirty seven Siths.” - Obi-Wan “In a row?” - Captain America
Un día una página de venta de camisetas empezó a vender a Millenials mezcladillos de referencias y en menos de dos décadas toda nuestra cultura popular es esto.
wasnt this a patton oswalt bit from a TV sitcom, where the whole point of the joke was that the crossover sounded tedious and awful
Ah, the End Times are finally here.
Sweet! I don't know why some people are being overly critical, but it's nice that a diehard fan of both Marvel and Star Wars is tackling this.
Leaving aside the whole WHY of it, the empire was canonically EXTREMELY racist against nonhumans, so them teaming up with Thanos, Venom, and Ultron is hilariously bad writing. Doom makes sense.
Feels like I got transported to the late 70s to mid 80s.
There's a lotta fine lookin women in the galaxy, but most of 'em will just lure you to the Dark Side of the Force.
Esto es como mezclar helado de chocolate y lasaña, solos están muy ricos pero juntos...
Only way for all of this to make sense if it was some all powerful cosmic being that was a child playing with reality as if they were its toys. THAT logic I can buy at least. Otherwise... its like DC/Power Rangers, DC/Hanna Barbera, DC/Looney Tunes, DC/Godzilla (oh yeah, Marvel did that one too)
‘Star Wars’ and Marvel are officially crossing over for the first time. Kevin Smith will write the five-issue limited series ‘Hope Assembles,’ with artwork by David Marquez. The crossover is described as “exciting, unpredictable, and heartfelt.”
Can't wait for the part where Deadpool spoils the "I am your father" twist to Luke early as another quirky "breaking the fourth wall" joke and disrupts the entire timeline.
Genuinely over the Marvel and Star Wars universes except for genuinely creative standalones. Loved Rogue One & hoping for more of those type of films. Tired of sequels, prequels, spin offs - the whole nine yards.
Well, this will definitely be am event.
I can't wait Captain America and Luke Skywalker to piss themselves and Green Goblin offer to let Vader fuck him in the ass. Keep Kevin Smith the fuck away from comics.
I'm kinda surprised it took them this long to do this You think this would've been their first move after Disney acquired Star Wars
Okay, I am genuinely intrigued to see where this crossover goes, especially seeing how it is written by a fan of both Star Wars and Marvel. I never thought about what a crossover between Marvel and Star Wars would look like, but OH GOD, the possibilities!
Finally nailing their true demographic
Professor X just blasting images of padme into Vader’s mind until he kills himself
'Avengers Assemble' has always been a crap battle-cry. This is a worse title.
Boy, I sure hope this is really good. I mean how could it not be.
<Movie Trailer voice> "When one aging franchise, desperate to recapture their audience, meets another franchise in the exact same scenario..."
Well, cat's out of the bag: I'm drawing Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, written by Kevin Smith! ew.com/star-wars-ma...
Well I'll be!!! Marvel is finally pulling the trigger on this crossover at last. Okay yeah, I'm in! I want this!
Honestly, unreal it took them THIS long after having both Franchises under one roof, but it's incredibly cool to really see it! Love David's art completely, very unsure about Smith's writing this, though. Fingers crossed. The Variant Covers alone are going to be insane! #ComicSky #StarWars
WOW! This looks absolutely sick! Now there is a comic series I would love to read!
I can’t really articulate why, but Kevin Smith doing a Marvel/Star Wars crossover feels like Tim Burton directing Alice in Wonderland. It’s like something designed in a lab to make sure nothing interesting happens.
The whole thing will just be "Wow, my favorite stuff is so cool"
Remember when he wrote Batman confessing that he pissed himself during that one scene in Year One?
ebert described Burton's Alice as "one big middle-aged sigh" and this sounds similar
I look forward to Kevin Smith talking about how he landed this gig on his YouTube podcast, at least. The dude hasn’t made anything good in this century (all of his comics output these days seems to be crossovers no one wants, like Jay & Silent Bob meet Archie?), but he’s still fun to hear dish.
...and I looked, and beheld a pale horse 😳 ew.com/star-wars-ma...
I’m not saying I want this, but I am surprised it took as long as it did.
Either Kevin Smith or (obviously) Patton Oswalt was going to do this sooner or later.
I don't know, this looks fun so far.
Wait I don't see Carol Danvers she literally named her car after Chewbacca this feels wrong don't leave her out...
Some mighty Marvel news for the 50th anniversary of A NEW HOPE.... ew.com/star-wars-ma...
I look forward to the scene of Luke Skywalker pissing himself. And to issue two never coming out.
alright so judging by the title and Greedo and Tarkin and Biggs of it all it looks like we’re leaning very ANH so I guess it gets a pass for no Veers but so help me god if we get to ESB era and he’s not there
But how does this fit into the Star Wars Angry Birds universe
Looking forward to seeing how Wookieepedia deals with this one.
Once every fifty years is just right. ;) Should be a fun Celebration panel, too.
Oh dear *Lord* no thank you.
I will give Marvel & Star Wars credit for waiting 10 years before even attempting such a thing. I remember thinking this would be a “obvious crossover” in 2014. I admire the restraint!
Feels so early 2010s you'd think there'd be a Chris Hardwick panel at Comic Con.
TBH I don’t know what I’d do with this… I don’t follow Marvel, we already have enough ANH Luke already (no offense to the OT, it’s just everywhere)… There’s a certain *new* trilogy that could use more comics instead…(hint hint)
never before have i been so sure something is gonna be total ass
This is my fault, @susanapolo.bsky.social. (When Susana was on Off Panel last, I talked about how thankful I was that Marvel had never done a crossover between Star Wars and Marvel's heroes. WHOOPS.)
You just wanted Stiltman Lightsaber legs to happen. We understand, and we forgive.
You cracked the seventh seal
I think we all knew in our bones that this was inevitably coming at some point
It’ll look real nice with David on art duties. When I thought about this mash up, I always saw the Chaste as Jedi & the Hand as Sith. So Daredevil, Elektra, Sam Chung, Shang-Chi & Iron Fist etc. doing Force imbued things (Fighting & Diplomacy) works for me. *Sigh* Definitely need more Blindspot.
Maybe saying this makes me a sucker, but I think there are writers who could do something kind of interesting with the inherent friction of putting Marvel and Star Wars narrative universes together. Kevin Smith simply is not one of them!
I understand wanting a Big Name to put on this sort of thing, but I flatly reject the idea that Kevin Smith counts. He hasn't made a movie in years, nor (thankfully!) made a comic in even longer. His main audience is, if I may be frank, old nerds. Giving this to him is an expression of defeat
to keep The Discourse going: this would be like hiring Emily Wilson to write a story merging The Odyssey and Beowolf. too beholden to the source material to do anything interesting
it should end with Spider-Man beating up Darth Vader, the reminder that this is canon for both universes, and then the characters all point and laugh at the reader for the remainder of the crossover.
It was inevitable Kevin Smith would have been many people’s first choice to write this…20 years ago…but we’ll see 😁 Should be stupid fun which is all this needs to be
Why didn't Patton Oswald get this assignment? www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BBh...
I don't hate Kevin Smith like some people do, and honestly I think he's capable of doing fine on this, I get why he's gotten on some peoples' nerves in more recent years... or decades... but eh, I'll give him a shot.
I think I was one of like 5 people that actually really liked Kevin Smith's MOTU series.
Color me curious, especially since Vader was partially based off of Doctor Doom.
Might as well weigh in on the big crossover news, I may not get it but it *will* sell Plus seeing Vader and Doom side by side is cool
To be fair, I'm not a big (non superhero) IP crossover fan in general Never gotten any of them (Godzilla/Aliens/Star Trek/etc), though I'm sure they're fun
There's them who say Doom is an ancestor to Vader. Creatively, George might have sort of spied Jack's homework.
I *was* genuinely excited. Not sure how I feel about Kevin Smith at the helm though. Like, you know he's gonna slip a fart joke in there somewhere.
Looks nice, but I won’t be buying it.
It's just going to be bullshit in another dimension, it's not even going to matter.
I would’ve been excited about it when I was 10, I hope it sells well for Marvel and the fans who buy it enjoy it but it’s definitely not for me even though I love both franchises.
Kevin Smith doing a Marvel / Star Wars crossover…. I’m saying “Go with God” like I’m carrying a dozen baguettes through an alleyway, you do you Kevin
There’s actually nothing interesting about Ant-Man and Greedo teaming up to stop Darth Vader or whatever
Hahahaha honestly I'm curious like that is some next-level stupid
There's one possible Star Wars crossover that's good and it's that comic where Han is killed by Native Americans and Chewie becomes the sasquatch and meets Indiana Jones.
