A total solar eclipse swept parts of Europe on Wednesday, producing totality in parts of Spain and Iceland while the United Kingdom experienced more than 90 percent coverage of the Sun. Millions of people across the UK and continental Europe watched what the BBC called the most significant solar eclipse there since 1999. BBC science correspondent Pallab Ghosh reported watching from Burgos, Spain, and said the spectacle gave him goosebumps. Satellites including MTG-I1 and ESA/Eumetsat recorded the Moon’s umbra crossing Earth, and RTBF used live imagery from about 36,000 kilometers in space during its special broadcast. News outlets including CNN and photo galleries collected widespread photos and videos showing the corona and the transient darkening in totality zones. Many viewers in Spain reported daytime briefly turning to night where totality occurred, while much of the rest of Europe saw a partial eclipse.
