Blue Jays move into AL wild‑card after 4-1 win over Yankees

Charles McAdoo drove in two runs, including a go-ahead double in the seventh, and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the New York Yankees 4-1 at Rogers Centre on Saturday. McAdoo’s seventh-inning double scored Ernie Clement from first, and he added a bases-loaded single in the eighth; Nathan Lukes’ fielder’s choice capped the two-run eighth. Alejandro Kirk had Toronto’s first run in the third after George Lombard Jr. put New York ahead in the second. Spencer Miles (5-2) earned the win in relief and Brent Headrick (6-2) took the loss. Louis Varland recorded his 27th save, striking out the side in the ninth. Left-hander Ricky Tiedemann made his major league debut, throwing 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while recording two strikeouts. Before the game the Blue Jays placed All-Star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on the seven-day concussion injured list after a collision in Friday’s game, and Toronto improved to 61-64 as it chases a wild-card spot; the Blue Jays will try for a series sweep Sunday with Dylan Cease expected to start against Ryan Weathers.
