Seven charged over vandalism at Trump’s Turnberry, accused of 'terrorist connection'
I know this isn't terrorism. You know this isn't terrorism. The authorities know this isn't terrorism. But, once again, they have labelled protesters "terrorists", as part of the long-running programme to ensure that no one dares protest about anything any more. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
What this reflects is the growing power of the ultra-rich over every aspect of life. Protest is an affront to the power of wealth. So is any politics to the left of an ever-shifting "centrism". So is independent journalism. So are independent universities. One by one, they must all be shut down.
I think that it would be hard to find people who didn’t agree with these terrorists let alone any who were terrorised by them.
The word "terrorist" has been thoroughly devalued. I hope we never see real terrorists on the streets of the UK again but if we do I know we are less psychologicaly prepared because of all this nonsense.
They should be given medals for what they did, the UK is turning into a very strange and unrecognisable place. This was a simple protest, yes charge with damage, that's appropriate, but they are not terrorists, it makes the state look stupid but also dangerous.
And yet they don't label people kicking doors down, trying to lynch non-white people, and burn their houses as terrorists.
Yes And who made the decision? The US? Has the US already decided that the Palestine Action judicial review will fail? Who is running the UK?
The justification for voting for Sensible Moderates was always that they could actually win and then do good things with power, and they would act as a bulwark against the far right. All of that is gone now, deliberately destroyed *by the Sensible Moderates themselves*. None of it remains.
“You have nothing to fear if you’ve done nothing wrong” What happens when they change the definitions of ‘wrong’?
Oh, FFS!!!!!!!!!! 🤬🤬🙄 Welcome to authoritarianism, courtesy of #Labour.
The Trumpification of the UK continues apace. "Terrorism" has become a catch all term, to describe anyone who disagrees with and/or protests anything the Westminster government backs.
@eddavey.libdems.org.uk @rhunapiorwerth.bsky.social @zackpolanski.bsky.social @johnswinney.bsky.social CON-LAB-Reform are all Corporatists sliding into fascism. The solution is for you all to work together and call it out before next GE. We need press changes, PR, rolling back of privatisation
This article is written very confusingly - what possible 'terrorist connection' could there be here? Unless it's PA they're referring to?
"It will be noted that pissing on someone's chips will now be deemed a terrorist act."
Yes, we recognize the fascist playbook being imposed our struggling idiocracy…
Europeans talk a big game about how much the US has alienated them and how far their paths have diverged but on big domestic policy issues like policing and repression of speech they are very much following the US’s lead.
i know british people aren't allowed to read anything that isn't a harry potter novel, and i weary of even saying anything, lest it be interpreted as advice or counsel or whatever, but: in life, if you are going to do something that will get you in trouble in any way, you should make it count.
The legal definition of ‘terrorist’ in the UK has basically been destroyed now, hasn’t it? www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
They vandalised the grass on a golf course, FFS. Nobody experienced ‘terror’.
As someone who grew up with the IRA in the news, and who who had a job interview delayed because of the London Tube bombings, this does not sound like terrorism to me.
It's like being charged with GBH for ruffling someone's hair.
This is The Guardian, who have been treating the public like lobotomised frogs re transphobia for the last decade. Shifting the language to push an agenda is what they do.
It's nothing more than criminal damage, if i spray painted my neighbours car it wouldn't be terror related ,hmm wonder if it would if I spray painted my local politicians tho
The word 'terrorist' has gone the same way as the word 'celebrity.'
A terrorist is now anyone pro-Palestinian who mildly inconveniences someone who matters
Seven people have been accused of a ‘terrorist connection’ and charged for damaging Trump’s golf course by painting ‘GAZA is not 4 sale’. Why are pro-Palestinian activists called ‘terrorists’, but Israel is not, when they are commiting genocide of the Palestinians. 🤷♀️
The meaning of the word "terrorism" continues to get more blatantly ridiculous. Terrorist graffiti. Terrorist digging up of turf.
At some point this is going to end up with the Terrorism Act having to be amended because Labour Home Secretaries couldn't resist throwing a tantrum over Palestine Action
Funny that setting fire to buildings with immigrants in, attacking police and painting roundabouts isn't terrorism. What am I missing here 🤔
It's designed to crush the very idea of protesting. Helps to keep left-wing ideas in check too. This is Starmer's legacy.
Another gulf renamed after Trump :-)
Terrorism now just means protesting against the rich and powerful.
2016 and Ayelet Shaked (Israeli Justice Minister) described BDS and attempts to arrest Israelis for war crimes as “legal terrorism”. In 2018 Ron Prosor described any criticism of Israel as “diplomatic terrorism”. Long term strategy. We are fools to follow it.
I look forward to a Reform Home Secretary proscribing Labour as a terrorist organisation and Shabana Mahmood going on TV to say 'white liberals don't understand that we need to make tough choices, which is why I am now turning myself in to HMP Belmarsh'
Except the people who terrorise asylum seekers. Those are "people with legitimate concerns about immigration" according to the government.
Endommager un golf n'est pas du terrorisme, c'est même le devoir de tout citoyen. D'autant plus si c'est un golf Trump.
Most importantly this is about the US using UK exaggerative proscription to extend their own limitations. Meanwhile the UK allows Tarrio to travel through the four regions unimpeded. Tarrio was charged with seditious conspiracy. (The Oath Keepers are not designed as a terror org in the US)
I wrote about just this back in 2014 noncuratlexeu.wordpress.com/2014/11/02/c... but also noting - forever - that none of the Jan6 accused were charged with terrorism offences. None of the perpetrators of the Belfast pogroms were charged with terrorism offences (despite proscribed orgs presence)
Deleted a previous post as it doesn't seem that 'serious damage to property' is the basis of the terrorism connection here. I'm actually not sure what it is - does anyone know for sure?
So if you dig up one of Trump's golf courses, you're a "terrorist" now. 🙄 "You are charged with terrorising the sod and committing violence against blades of grass." 👨⚖️
The charges were applied after a meeting between Eric Trump and John Swinney. Seems like maybe the SNP aren't quite the party of the left they normally like to portray themselves as.
> It adds that it will be proved “that the aforesaid offence was aggravated by reason of having a terrorist connection”. < Ah... here comes the "Antifa" bullshite.
There isn't a jury in Scotland that would convict them. www.ipsos.com/en-uk/7-10-s...
If destroying landscapes is terrorism, Trump should be on the most wanted list. His wrecking ball stretches from the east wing of the White House to the reflecting pool to America's national monuments.
Is it too cynical to note that these people vandalised Trump’s golf course at Turnberry in March last year, and Trump came to Britain for a state visit in September, and that the proscription was between these two events? Probably not, I think. If nothing else, I’d guess it focused minds.
Correlation not being causation, of course. But. Given Trump and his pals are forever hallucinating left wing terrorist conspiracies everywhere, it does seem fairly plausible that PA were declared a terrorist group to placate the mad emperor. Because it was a really fucking dumb thing to do.
not at all, it's supported by the evidence: In early March, Cooper received advice from JTAC, the PRG, and FO, which was all equivocal about proscription. Then Turnberry is vandalised on 08/03. New advice is then requested, essentially the week after that just submitted. What changed?
This is coming from the UK as well. Australia too, if I’m not mistaken. This is a global push for Fascism. They have infiltrated the US. UK and Australia is not far behind unless their citizens stop it.
Plenty of other people would be happy to trash Trump's golf courses... The Palestine Action proscription has been mentioned before in this context, Private Eye a while back, revealing US pressure.
UK govt launched a genocide of trans people and it percolated over to the US. UK govt cracked down on protest and, tah dah, it percolated to the US. Politicians don't get psychology and culture and public interest all at the same time. Many times politicians are the mark and too dumb to see it.
Damaging a golf course is not terrorism. We've lost the plot in this country www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
This is how the police should react to anti-Trump signage at Turnberry
Feel like this might be self-fulfilling. Some people intent on some peaceful demonstration will be like "if I'm gonna get charged with terrorism anyway... might as well blow up the clubhouse".
Unfortunately the UK has seen terrorism all too close, this is doesn't look like that.
Seven people charged with vandalising Donald Trump’s Turnberry golf course in Scotland have been ludicrously accused of maliciously digging up turf “having a terrorist connection” www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
Britain is a vassal state, and it's business as usual under Burnham. The UN released a report in Janary carried out by Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights & fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism, Ben Saul. This doesn't meet the UN criteria of terror. [1/2]
Worth saying that in Eng&Wales, the jury are unaware and the judge decides (post verdict), but in Scotland it is included in the charge & therefore the jury are aware. Prosecution needs at least 10-5 for a guilty verdict, anything less is not proven or not guilty (no hung juries, no retrials)
