Jack Kirby Day, the artist's 109th birthday
A plaque memorialising Jack Kirby has been unveiled at the Avengers Campus inside Disney's California Adventure theme park. #JackKirby #Avengers #comicbooks
kurisu78852Disney sucks for a lot of reasons, that said gestures like these are pretty nice.
danst3.bsky.social2Nice of Disney to honor him - but it looks like a tombstone...
Applebutter1Mind sneaking a photo of jolly jack in any future mcu project along with there respective creators
SJWJamesBond29Good! About time and good timing given it's Jack Kirby's birthday.
The-Autistic-Artist 🥥 🍀 🏳️🌈 Doomsday and Coyote vs. Acme Era9That's great! It took them long enough, but THE most influential artist in Marvel Comics' history, The King of Comics himself, is FINALLY getting such an honor! That is quite an awesome birthday present!
Ed Lynch5He deserves a statue of him clobberin’ Nazis with giant The Thing hands but this is a good start! 😉
tokyo chainsaw4theyll do thus and yet kirby never had health insurance while working at marvel when he was alive. ok man lol

Steve X-Men Comics25Classic Kirby, awesome choice. For #TopShelfFriday on Kirby’s birthday I’m going with Uncanny X-Men #13 (1965). Juggernaut’s 2nd app and one I haven’t share here yet.
Jeremy Williams25I'm going with this Kirby/Verpooten Thor cover. I love the color palette of this one almost as much as the art. Insane deep blue and red in the foreground/background. Plus Big-Top Thor is an automatic buy.
Jere from Buffalo.25I'm going with Cap annual #4. "Double Length Action from Jack "King" Kirby." Cap at the mercy of Magneto!
Chris R.24Should have held my DEMON cover to this week. Oops! I'll have to settle for a recent pick up - another hole-plugging LSH book - for #TopShelfFriday #Comics

Grumpy Old John 🦇5My #TopShelfFriday pick is the Cat-Man and Kitten one shot from Dynamite Comics. Golden Age Public Domain characters done right.
In honor of Jack Kirby's 101st birthday, here's Slate's excerpt of my 2021 Stan Lee biography, TRUE BELIEVER -- it details the precise incident that made Jack realize he had no future at Marvel Comics: archive.is/1vTUu
Vic! Perfecto24In which I learned that Stan had kayfabed an entire fake "writing session" where he wildly gesticulated while Jack "uh-huhed" his way through Stan's panto, all in front of a reporter that would write an article fawning over Stan while likening Jack to "[an] assistant foreman in a girdle factory.”
Rootless Suburbian13I read True Believer and highly recommend it.
Happy Birthday Jack Kirby! I had the honor of representing @jackkirbymuseum.bsky.social on the SyFy channel some years back to highlight the importance of his Lower East Side upbringing and the Fourth World. Truly a high point for me as a comics critic getting to share the Kirby Museum’s work on tv.
Elana Levin11Oh yeah that’s me talking about the significance of Jack Kirby’s participation as a teen in the rather radical Boys Brotherhood Republic. The walking tour is from the Jack Kirby Museum’s own tour itinerary and research. I couldn’t have done this without them. Also, hello Todd McFarlane!
Tade Thompson2And DC absolutely did not know the value of what he gave to them.
KevFun Newburn2There was like a 2 year span where SyFy Wire had some of the coolest reporting on comics. I'm definitely gonna check this out!
David Zoltan (he/they)1Love the segment! Nice interview!
For Jack Kirby’s birthday, I decided to share my favorite single issue by the King. It was a hard decision, so many choices, but when it comes down to it, in my heart of hearts, I think it’s Kamandi no. 1. The whole series is great, but this issue is special to me. What’s your fave? #JackKirbyMonth
Raul Mora7I only read the first few issues and was surprised to see that it included social commentaries on capitalism and greed.
Not Near Mint4I remember being a kid and seeing some old lady using Kamandi as bird paper and being horrified.
Drew Evan Dobbs2I'll get onboard - Boy, talk about a tough decision. I'll go with this, my childhood copy (and nearly loved to pieces) of New Gods #6. I loved the epic story as a kid, and those double-page and single page images are still absolutely awesome, in every sense of the word. Oh, and the Deep Six, scary!
John Livesay2That’s a great pick. I’d have to go with the Demon.
Austin Allen Hamblin1It’s such and underrated series! I also love the Kamandi Challenge!
