Texas voter suspense list hits 1.2 million

More than 1.2 million Texas voters have been placed on the state’s voter suspense list after election officials could not confirm their current addresses. Being on the suspense list does not cancel a registration or the right to vote, but it can require an extra step at the polls. Voters who still live in the same county can cast a regular ballot after completing a statement of residence; those who moved to another county may need to vote in their previous county or cast a provisional ballot. Voters can check their status using the Texas Secretary of State voter registration lookup and contact their county elections office to update or confirm information. The deadline to register or update a Texas voter registration for the upcoming election is October 5; early voting begins October 19 and Election Day is November 3. Statewide contests include the governor’s race between Greg Abbott, Gina Hinojosa and Pat Dixon and the U.S. Senate contest listing Ken Paxton, James Talarico and Ted Brown; all 38 U.S. House seats are also on the ballot and new congressional maps approved in 2025 mean some voters will be in different districts.
