Google Maps shows 'Lake America' to U.S. users after GNIS name change

Well, guess I'm permanently using Apple Maps. Feckless, tyrant-appeasing Google Maps on the left, has-a-spine-at-least-for-now Apple Maps on the right. I'm so absolutely sick of being humiliated by both my own government and the corporations that keep pandering to our decrepit POTUS.

How fucking embarrassing to be the peon that actually had to push the buttons. “Oh, you’re a Google intern, that’s cool, what do you do each day?” “I rename stuff after America in Google Maps.”

Also deleted Google Maps. This is actually something that is likely to show up in their numbers - “how many DAU/WAU are we getting” is almost certainly something they’re tracking and there’s probably people in the company who want to see these kinds of decisions look bad/may highlight it

It was either this or explain why not after they changed Gulf of Mexico. No difference. So Trump is effectively Chief of Naming at Google Maps.

I just deleted Google Maps. I’m going to give you a try. I prefer my maps to be sensible.

And the thing is, Google Maps was one of two of Alphabet’s products still worth using. (They haven’t completely broken Google Scholar yet.) But with so many other choices, I can live without it.

Anyone have the link to report errors on Google Maps?

I am done with Google. I just looked at Google maps and they have Lake Ontario labeled as Lake America. F*** them. I am deleting every Google app on every device I have. Brave search and Duck Duck Go work very well. Switching from Android to Apple is going to take a bit longer but I'll do that too.

For what it's worth, visit Lake Ontario on Google maps. Then click your profile, and click help and feedback, then click edit the map, then click your opinions about Google Maps, then leave your opinion. Don't let Google collect your device logs. Do let Google have the screenshot.

So far Apple Maps is still showing Lake Ontario. They had bent the knee for the Gulf of America.

I tried searching "lake ontario" on Google maps, and it tells me it can't connect. But it will allow me to search Lake Huron and others. (Screams unintelligibly)
