US excludes Pennsylvania measles deaths from national counts
Welp, there it is. The CDC is now officially manipulating data and their count of measles deaths in 2026 now stands at ZERO. My understanding of reportable diseases is that the CDC would usually use a state health department’s determination as the final say. The new CDC Director is failing us.
Same as Covid. Semantics. They didn’t die “of measles”, but some secondery cause after measles made them very ill. Trump didn’t want COVID deaths counted. Of course he doesn’t want measles deaths counted.
The new CDC Director is actively lying to us.
The evidence will show that the victim died _with_ concrete shoes, not _of_ them. Having your feet encased in concrete might be uncomfortable, but it cannot possibly be lethal.
They'll tell you with a straight face that nobody dies from measles and it's always the comorbidities that are the actual cause, then turn around and say that Doritos are killing people.
Wow. We'll look back on this Idiot administration and the stats will say that nobody died from infectious diseases at all. Only died with them. USA will have to rebuilt from scratch.
I'd go with "betraying" rather than "failing," but that's quibbling...
*slaps roof of White House* this bad boy can fit so many 18 USC §1001 violations in it
Daten über Maserntote in den USA werden gelöscht.
Reminds me of Donald Trump on Covid: "If we stop testing right now, we’d have very few cases, if any" Truth disrupts the goals of authoritarianism & fascism, thus truth (& a shared reality, based on facts, data, & evidence) must be destroyed. In its place comes data manipulation & propaganda.
This is what happens when we have to pretend conspiracy theorists are earnestly engaging in something. They are not trying to seek information, they believe they already know the truth and anything that challenges that is wrong or a lie
they're doing it before your eyes—again. if you still think the government has your best interest in mind when giving guidance on staying healthy, what more do they have to do for you to believe what they're showing you: they do not care.
I am no doctor or scientist etc- but if a baby is surrounded by people with measles (at least 200 cases in that community) to the point his own mother and siblings has measles? My first thought is: that baby died from measles. Second thought: or from the mother having measles.
If they're cooking the books on numbers we know about, imagine what they're doing on the numbers we don't.
Nothing your government says on any subject can be trusted.
This is your reminder babies can't get vaccinated against measles, and one of the deaths was a NEWBORN.
tweaking the numbers to make a disease seem less prevalent and deadly than it actually is so their deliberate negligence isn’t as obviously monstrous? the cdc is playing all the old hits lately
Erica Schwartz, the new CDC director, ordered agency officials to challenge two measles deaths reported by PA, shunning the agency’s normal procedure of accepting state data and amplifying comments made by her boss, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/31/h...
Well I guess that answers the question of whether she is going to follow her professional training or her boss
Wait, the CDC is now defending measles from state officials who are blaming it for deaths!?! It truly has to become the Centers for Disease.
Disgraceful and way to traumatize grieving families
If you stop the testing, all the COVID cases will just disappear.
real 'keeping her eye on the important stuff' happening here 🙄 an entire administration focused on PR is working out great for all of us
Hey, it’s what they did to underreport Covid deaths as well. Just par for the course.
It’s cool how no one will trust previously trustworthy institutions for like a generation
so she's as bad as the rest of them.
This is what it looks like when the lunatics are running the asylum.
“Dr. Zink said she could not remember a time when the C.D.C. publicly questioned a state’s determination of cause of death. State officials are increasingly “choosing not to share data with the C.D.C. because of mistrust how it might be used,” she said.”
She got hired specifically be the scapegoat for RFK's death toll, which should have been extremely obvious to her but will doubtless surprise the hell out of her when the finding out comes
This right here is why she was chosen for the job.
Confirmed: She's a tool, too.
Of course. Embarrassing this administration and/or proving it wrong about anything is the greatest crime one can commit in America right now.
New CDC director delays adding Pennsylvania deaths to measles data
I’ve never met a political party more comfortable politicizing deaths
Her job is to protect Trump, not Americans. And she’s apparently on board with that.
Yup, already betraying her oath. Sleeze bag, needs to lose license
Delays? That's a funny way to say, "refuses to acknowledge."
Note that Rfkjr tries to spin, “well, they died with measles, not of measles”. And then in the next breath, he makes a big stink about “well, the bigger issue is diet-based disease”… and yet, did those people actually die “of” the food. Like, did they choke to death? A ridiculous ghoul…
Kennedy and the CDC aren't yet counting the Pennsylvania deaths from measles -- a "highly unusual” move, @drdebhoury.bsky.social told me. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...
PA cases are being handled differently than TX and NM. This further erodes trust and will damage CDC’s relationship with state health departments
If the account in The Atlantic is accurate, the infant death is 100% due to measles. -Mother contracted it late in pregnancy -Went into labor while severely ill from measles -baby born without a pulse, resuscitation attempted, died within the hour Pretending death not due to measles is insane😳
it's not "highly unusual" it's corruption and lying by omission !
They're never going to count them. They will refuse to do it simply because they've convinced themselves that no one has the right to tell them what to do. Trump is a monster. RFK Jr is more evil yet.
there are millions of ways to point out how our media systems fail us, but I think just using the qualifier "highly unusual" consistently for a decade is 101 shit
Man, this is a move typically reserved for "watery diarrhea" in, like, Eritrea
The CDC's decision to exclude two deaths reported by Pennsylvania from updates of the national measles death tally "came from new CDC director Erica Schwartz, according to three former and current officials familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation."
She’s corrupt and we’re fucked.
🧵 I told you Schwartz was going to be bad news at the CDC, and here we go: The CDC "is excluding two deaths reported by Pennsylvania from its weekly updates of a national measles death tally, a decision that came from new CDC director Erica Schwartz," per... 1/10 Gift 🎁 link: wapo.st/4xb3AtW
2/ officials who "spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation." 🔹️The deaths are not included on the CDC’s website, which says "At this time, available information does not establish whether measles caused or contributed to the deaths or whether the individuals died from other...
P.S. I missed these 2 important notes: 1. "Schwartz told agency staff in a recent all-hands meeting that... she would be able to disagree with Kennedy," but "not in front of the media,” per a recording the WaPo got. 2. & a member of the Lancaster PA Board of Commissioners who's also a hospital...
