HBO released an extended trailer for its eight-episode TV adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and the series will premiere at Christmas. The trailer, a follow-up to a March teaser, shows Harry using the invisibility cloak, playing Quidditch and being confronted by Professor Snape. Newcomer Dominic McLaughlin plays Harry, with Alastair Stout as Ron and Arabella Stanton as Hermione; the child cast was selected after a lengthy search among British actors aged nine to 11. The series features Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid and John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, with Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy. Production began in Hertfordshire, England, last July, and the show is led by writer Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod, who will direct some episodes. J.K. Rowling serves as an executive producer in an advisory capacity; the article notes Nicholas Hoult stepped back from a planned second-season role amid backlash and Kit Harington was announced as his replacement for Gilderoy Lockhart.

Even with all the culture war junk, the first two movies are slogs to get through. The movies only survived because the third one is an all time great kids movie. I don't see the series making it to season three because who needs 10 hours to tell stories were 2 hours were more then enough.
