OpenAI rolls out GPT‑6 Astra

techSep 3, 202620327

OpenAI on Thursday began a phased rollout of GPT-6 Astra, saying a limited group of companies in its application-based cybersecurity program Daybreak will be the first to get access. OpenAI disclosed Astra is the first model to hit its internal "Critical" cybersecurity threshold and that the company added extra safeguards after a recent Hugging Face breach; OpenAI paused some research and training work following that incident even though Astra was not implicated. OpenAI described Astra as state-of-the-art for computer use, software engineering, professional work and science, and said the model is better at staying oriented, respecting task boundaries, understanding user intent and completing multi-step workflows. Greg Brockman said OpenAI is putting more compute and effort into safety, security and alignment and called the improvements a qualitative shift in what work people can delegate to AI. Astra will reach ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans and be available via the OpenAI API and Amazon Web Services in the coming days. OpenAI has been pushing into enterprise sales as its primary revenue engine, confidentially filed an IPO prospectus in June, and CFO Sarah Friar has said OpenAI expects to be public by 2027 but could go sooner if business accelerates.
