Australian wildcard Dane Sweeny upset 14th seed Lorenzo Musetti 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 to reach the US Open last 32. Sweeny, who stands 170 cm tall, reached the third round of a grand slam for the first time and secured a minimum pay day of US$290,000. Musetti required a medical time-out after falling behind a double break at 0-3 in the third set and showed visible distress during the match. Sweeny produced diving volleys at the net despite carrying a large ice pack on his right elbow from his first-round win. The 25-year-old will face world number 22 Luciano Daredri on Saturday AEST in the third round and will move to a career-best ranking of about 115 or higher. Fellow Australians Tristan Schoolkate and Alexei Popyrin both lost second-round matches, to Flavio Cobolli and Alejandro Tabilo respectively.

A #USOpen racquet smashing montage from ESPN (and me) including the Boisson one that went viral a couple days ago

Love it when they do that

Herculinds6

They didn't show it, but the funniest part of the Darderi one, is he handed it to a fan afterwards

Men (and Boisson) would rather smash their racquets At the US open than go to therapy.

This is where the kids need an education. A couple slams tops and it’s smashed like the greats used to do.

Do these ever damage the court? It seems like it would

Return Serve Guess who's back in the top 100, y'all? Zheng Qinwen racks up her 5th straight win at this year's US Open, holding off Yulia Putintseva, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1, to reach the 3rd round. With the victory, Zheng is back up 27 spots to #94 in the live rankings.

#Tennis #USOpen #USOpen2026 @neilforreal.bsky.social I was clipping the previous point when Yuliia Starodubtseva cramped up and I missed this underarm serve. Yuliia Starodubtseva's underarm serve - as you said, "The greatest underarm serve you'll ever see." I had to rewind and take a look.

That's the way to do it, with that vicious side-spin. What a weapon to have in the arsenal.

Ah, the ole underhand serve and volley.

Can't believe I missed her amazing comeback!

A sneak attack underhand serve might be the most diabolical thing I’ve ever seen in sports

Sweeny d. Musetti 3-6 6-1 6-2 6-2 at the US Open. Dane reaches his first Grand Slam R3. Lorenzo wasn't at his best and it was clear that he was struggling with something physically... But he kept fighting and made Sweeny earn it. 🇦🇺

I wonder if Novak Djokovic's early US Open loss meant he was finally able to attend this year

Now that the Clips thing is past us, time for me to talk my shit about Notorious BVZ at the US Open. Botic's up a set on 6th seed Alex de Minaur, now five wins and change from the title. Poor Alex brought a tennis racket to a knife fight.

Dane Sweeny is through to the third round after two opponents weren’t up to the task of the day. That’s not to take away from him. He showed up to work prepared. His opponents did not.
