Isar Aerospace's Spectrum rocket reaches orbit from Norway

German startup Isar Aerospace successfully launched its Spectrum rocket from Andøya Spaceport in Norway on its second flight and reached orbit, deploying several CubeSats. The mission, billed as "Onward and Upward," carried five CubeSats plus one hosted payload manifested through ESA’s Boost! program. Isar reported the second stage achieved a preliminary 180 by 500 kilometer orbit. Isar called the flight the first time a privately developed rocket from continental Europe reached orbit. European outlets framed the achievement as strengthening Europe’s autonomous access to space and opening the door to more private European launch competition against established players such as SpaceX. The launch came from Isar’s dedicated launch complex at Andøya and marks the company’s first orbital success after a previous failed attempt. Next steps include follow-on missions and customer deployments enabled by this operational milestone at Andøya.
