Charles Leclerc crashes at Monza, Italian Grand Prix red-flagged

Charles Leclerc crashed at Monza on the second lap of the Italian Grand Prix when he spun through the high-speed Parabolica and speared off into the gravel before slamming into the tire barrier. Leclerc, 28, climbed out of the Ferrari unaided, was taken to a safe spot by trackside staff, and then sent to the medical center as a precaution; Ferrari confirmed he was released and okay before the race resumed. The race was first neutralized behind the safety car and then suspended with a red flag to allow barrier repairs; officials completed repairs and restarted the race after a roughly 30-minute stoppage. The incident echoed Leclerc’s high-speed Monza crash at the same corner in 2020. At the time of the accident Leclerc had been battling Oscar Piastri for fourth and had briefly run as high as second earlier in the lap. The crash followed an opening-lap side-by-side moment between Leclerc and teammate Lewis Hamilton, after which Hamilton radioed that “Charles pushed me off” and reported a lack of power.
