President Donald Trump posted a graphic showing a proposed Space Force service dress: a charcoal collared jacket and pants with a black belt, black boots, matching cap, and the Space Force Delta on the collar, sleeve patch, belt buckle and cap. The graphic states the design is "inspired by the discipline and functionality of the Starship Trooper uniform. Modernized for the guardians of the space domain." Critics and commentators likened the look to the villain costumes from Starship Troopers and to Imperial and Nazi aesthetics; menswear writer Derek Guy wrote that the design signals who are the bad guys in a space movie, and healthcare advocate Melanie D'Arrigo noted the resemblance to Star Wars villains. Jonah Goldberg of The Dispatch warned that the designers may have missed Paul Verhoeven's satirical point in Starship Troopers. Conservative voices including Erick Erickson and Jennifer Zilla also compared the design to Imperial forces from Star Wars. It is unclear whether the graphic reflects any formal plan to change Space Force uniforms; The Independent contacted the Space Force and White House for comment.
