Adam Kinzinger opened a Labor Day special titled "Special Report: Trump Whiffing on Labor Day, The Midterm Map Comes Into Focus, and What It’s Really Like to Run for Office" by accusing President Trump of overseeing the most sustained assault on organized labor in modern times, citing an executive order from March that removed nearly a million federal workers from collective bargaining. Kinzinger noted the administration has since expanded that order to pull NASA, NOAA, the National Weather Service, and the Patent and Trademark Office out of union coverage and said a June order reclassifying career federal employees allows firing without due process. Kinzinger cited court outcomes, including a Ninth Circuit decision siding with the administration in February and a narrower June win for unions in Massachusetts, and he said roughly 400,000 federal jobs have disappeared since Trump took office while manufacturing jobs fell by 75,000. He added that union membership reached its highest level in sixteen years this past winter, arguing that organizing is increasing despite administration actions and that Republicans should take notice. The episode also examined the midterm map with all 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats on the ballot, looked at the fight over federal agents at polling places, and closed with Kinzinger offering his firsthand advice to prospective candidates about what it feels like to run for office.
