Prime Video released the first full trailer for Mike Flanagan’s eight-episode Carrie, a Stephen King adaptation that the press and coverage say will arrive as a binge drop on October 6. The streamer’s press release says the series ‘‘expands the world, bringing new depth and complexity to its beloved characters’’ as it traces how Carrie White, played by Summer H. Howell, is shaped ‘‘by the cruelty and pressure of the modern world’’ before a single, shattering night. Flanagan directed episodes one, two, seven, and eight; the remaining episodes are directed by Kate Siegel, Axelle Carolyn, Kyra Sedgwick, and Hiromi Kamata, with Siegel also appearing in the cast. The ensemble includes Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle, plus Michael Trucco, Rahul Kohli, Tim Bagley, Crystal Balint, and Heather Graham. At San Diego Comic-Con Flanagan said the show ‘‘takes it apart into its essential pieces’’ and promised fans the prom sequence will take viewers by surprise; he called that sequence the most complex scene he has ever filmed. With eight episodes, Flanagan has room to dig into the White family and Chamberlain’s past and present before all episodes arrive on the announced October 6 premiere date.
