Chelsea Green retains WWE Women's Championship on SmackDown

entertainmentSep 11, 20264197

On the September 11, 2026 edition of WWE SmackDown in Mexico City Chelsea Green defeated Nia Jax to retain the WWE Women’s Championship. During and after that show fans noticed WWE’s official Superstars page no longer listed Rhea Ripley as champion and removed the “Interim” label from Chelsea Green’s name. Ripley suffered an injury about four months earlier during a live show in Lisbon against Jade Cargill, prompting an Interim WWE Women’s Title Ladder Match at SummerSlam 2026 that Chelsea Green won. Chelsea Green worked through an injury scare to register her first title defense on the September 11 SmackDown. WWE has not issued an official statement about the website change, so it is unclear whether the listing reflects a deliberate decision to present Green as undisputed champion or a website error. The removal of Ripley from the champion listing has prompted concern among Ripley supporters and raises the possibility WWE will either formally unify the lineage or quietly adjust its championship recognition.
