Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor warn of 'end times fascism'

Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor argue in a new book, End Times Fascism: And the Fight for the Living World, that a dangerous coalition of actors from messianic venture capitalists to army-controlling theocrats now embrace apocalyptic thinking and are willing to let the planet fail so a chosen few survive. The authors say this represents an evolution in far-right politics tied to pandemics, climate emergencies, resource wars and rogue technology, and that these forces claim both secular and supernatural authority to justify exclusion. Klein and Taylor commissioned a short film with directors Emma Dessau, Austin Bedell and P Nick Curran so audiences can hear directly from people they identify as part of this threat; The Guardian published the film for the first time. The book and film lay out why the authors believe resisting requires renewed commitments to the planet and mutual solidarity rather than accommodation or escape. Klein is identified as a Guardian US columnist and professor of climate justice; Taylor is described as a writer, organizer and documentary maker and co-founder of the Debt Collective. End Times Fascism is published 15 September by Farrar, Straus and Giroux.

Since it can be hard to believe that political and corporate elites would actively give up on our shared future on this singular planet, we made a short film so folks can hear from the end timers and judge for themselves. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Tech fascism is becoming impossible to ignore. It's a key mechanism of the climate crisis, the economic crisis, and the democratic crisis. Use your voice to raise the alarm and fight back. The establishment can ignore some of us. It cannot ignore all of us. 🎁🔗 www.nytimes.com/2026/09/12/m...
