Valve opened reservations for the Steam Frame standalone wireless VR headset, offering a 256GB model for $1,059 and a 1TB model for $1,299. The headset runs supported games locally on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 hardware and SteamOS, and can stream more demanding VR and flat-screen titles from a PC using a dedicated wireless adapter. Hardware includes 16GB of RAM, pancake optics, 2,160 by 2,160 resolution per eye, up to 120Hz refresh, eye tracking, Wi-Fi 7, and a microSD slot. Valve bundles Half-Life: Alyx, including a native version that can run directly on the Frame. Rather than a first-come checkout, Valve is using a randomized reservation system: sign-ups are open until September 17 at 10 a.m. PT, with purchase invitations expected September 18. Valve is also offering accessories and replacement parts now, with more upgrades planned later.
