At the 78th Emmy Awards, Apple TV’s horror-comedy Widow’s Bay swept every category it was nominated in and collected 14 Emmys, breaking the single-season comedy record (the previous high was 13 set last year by The Studio). Widow’s Bay capped its night with outstanding comedy series, marking Apple TV’s fourth win in six years in that category. The Pitt won outstanding drama series. Welsh actor Matthew Rhys won two lead-actor Emmys in one night and became the first performer to win lead acting awards across comedy, drama and limited series. The ceremony, hosted by Mariska Hargitay, included a touching tribute to Catherine O’Hara and honored Michael J. Fox with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award. The telecast also produced viral moments onstage, including a bleeped John Mulaney performance.
