The House Oversight Committee voted unanimously 41-0 to recommend that billionaire financier Leon Black be held in contempt of Congress after he refused to comply with subpoenas seeking his testimony and nondisclosure agreements as part of the panel’s investigation into Jeffrey Epstein. Committee chair James Comer said subpoenas "are not suggestions" and called Black’s testimony "crucial," noting Black produced only one NDA and did not appear for his September 3 deposition. Black has sued to block the subpoenas, arguing they are invalid and would expose private women who bargained for confidentiality; his lawyers called the contempt resolution "a complete abomination." The Guardian notes Black has denied wrongdoing and the New York Times reported he paid Epstein $170 million for services from 2013 to 2017. The committee voted to move its report to the full House; the office of House Speaker Mike Johnson did not immediately say whether the full chamber will consider the contempt measure.
