UK minister hits out at 'tax exile' Sir Jim Ratcliffe
So much of the right these days have a massive patriotism problem. This guy: - is a tax exile (left long before this govt) - hates his own country while complaining he doesn’t get big enough subsidies from it - laments the manufacturing hit from a Brexit he supported www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
There are lots of real economic headwinds, not least from the Iran war (which is part of why we opposed it). But there are also lots of brilliant business owners who live in Britain and are investing in it (even if the BBC don’t cover their comments, or investments, as news)
And also complains about immigration while becoming an immigrant himself. Its all hypocrisy with Billionaires.
No push back or challenge from the BBC journalist. Just spoonfeeding in the usual tired taking points about tax and immigration. Like two old whingers down the pub agreeing with each other.
The only way the BBC have made a story of his words is by omitting that for years he hasn’t paid UK taxes and he makes money out of oil.
I'm just utterly fed up of rich people thinking that just because they're rich, they have some divine knowledge about running a country, ESPECIALLY when they don't live here or contribute anything. And you can guarantee that what they do say is always about making themselves even richer.
If you read the quotes here, he says nothing original or interesting. It’s just platitudes about North Sea O&G, American vs. British attitudes, Immigration and Tax - all the sort of “analysis” you can read from cretins on LinkedIn. Why are we meant to think this man’s words or views carry weight?
The guy that owns Manchester United is complaining about immigration real fuck you to the majority of his players isn’t it
Wish more Labour politicians could be positive and express themselves as clearly about the prospects for the UK. The "woe is me, we're all doomed" narrative needs challenging. Well done, Torsten.
Keep it snappy. He’s a ****.
A minister writes... Perhaps he should ask his boss why he allowed Rishi Sunak to get in first with his Sunday Times op-ed reminding us that Racism Is Bad You Know. www.thetimes.com/article/e89d...
he'll probably be selected to stand as a labour party candidate in the next general. he has the same values.
'this person has a massive patriotism problem' says an mp from the political party that has turned the uk in to a corrupt, rancid, bigoted shithole of an oligarchy. this is what the right call 'virtue-signalling':
You're an MP for the party in government. What are you actually doing to stop billionaires from leaving the country to avoid paying taxes? A little tip: grandstanding about patriotism doesn't count as doing something.
of course, if we had a decent DCMS minister, some reasonable questions could be asked why the BBC keep platforming these people, who are most definitely not patriots. but we don't, we have Lisa Nandy 🤷♂️
so of course the BBC gives him a platform.
The UK has lost confidence in Jim Ratcliffe.
Lord give me the arrogance of a tax exile who feels the right to comment on the tax policies and general running of a country who you have deprived of billions by registering yourself in Monaco
When did billionaires and multimillionaires become such miserable whiny cunts when they have everything? At one time, they‘d just move themselves and/or their money and shut the fuck up.
Every time he is in England he should get pelted with rotten fruit and eggs. Absolutely shameless. And of course - OF COURSE!!!! - this PoS backed Brexit. “Brexit will be wonderful” he said as he ran away to Monaco. Why the actual F the BBC platforms this monstrous wart I have no clue.
Why the hell is the Beeb (which he does not fund) publishing unedited ouff pieces about tax exile, Britain hating billionaires? Who, once again, contribute nothing but whinging and do not even live here?
And Ineous relocated to Switzerland to avoid paying tax, also got a cob on because the U.K. government made him pay £350 million in VAT that units collected He’s the dirt of person that should be ridiculed not listened to
Immigrant says what about immigration?
I've made a complaint, not least as they ran an almost identical 'news' item a few months ago (and even then it wasn't 'news'. Shameful pandering to the far right.
Criticise the UK/UK Government: -What a wanker, tax exile, thieving prick, shut up. Criticise/Shaft Scotland/Scottish Government: -Captain of industry, knows his onions, fawning interview and double page profile.
It should be mandated by OfCom to indicate in news stories if the person commenting on the UK actually contributes taxes, after all it’s easy to talk shit about something you demonstrably don’t actually care about
French, EU citizen putting down the UK. He doesn't live here and hasn't for decades. 4,000 UK INEOS employees on UC because he pays them poorly. Deliberately quotes highly inaccurate figures on immigration to "help his argument". Horrible, selfish, grizzled ol' man.
Worth pointing out that Ineos has been struggling with colossal debts for many years now.
Jim putting the rat in Ratcliffe since, by the looks of him, the 1800s. Making out immigration and the welfare system are draining the country rather than people like him. Horrible little man.
🎵 cause i am looking for a way out…….. ⚽️ 😂
He's also lost confidence in his barber.
Who cares what this pillock has to say? Your opinion doesn’t become newsworthy just because you’re a billionaire, if anything experience shows us the opposite should be true.
Ratcliffe continues to demonstrate he’s one of the great cunts of our age
"Tax exile." The UK could just tax the income of Brits living in other countries. That would stop the extortion threat, "if you tax them they'll leave." The US does that.
How the BBC’s latest platforming of the bigoted views of the anti-migrant billionaire tax exile Jim Ratcliffe is the sign of a national broadcaster that is increasingly losing its way www.adambienkov.co.uk/p/how-the-bb...
Why is he called a "tax exile" and not a tax avoiding migrant?
This shows the problem we have with the media. Ratcliffe’s opinion is only valid to them because he’s very rich. Yet despite him saying Britain is broken it seems to provide him nicely with wealth and a good life in Monaco.
Same impression here. The BBC has morphed into a platform for xenophobic bigots and assorted crooks. Surprisingly, nobody seems particularly interested in investigating what’s behind the change. The Labour gov, meanwhile, appears perfectly comfortable with it as it pursues its Reform Lite agenda.
I have complained. Funny how the two-sidesism only really works one way. If the BBC had featured a pro-immigration proponent with no counter-argument, all hell would be let loose.
*has already lost its way - it did years ago. Brexit was enough for me.
The BBC keeps calling him "Britain's richest man" but he's a citizen of Monaco. At least, one assumes he is. Or has he managed to remain a UK citizen but paying no tax?
People argue the BBC is in the hands of the left. A laughable position. Platforming the irrelevant views of billionaires who don’t live here to talk the country down is full right wing media territory. The Tories appointments’ at BBC have completely undermined and trashed its credibility.
Here here❗️When I saw this BBC headline my first thought is why are they treating what a tax dodging UK exile says as headline news All he does is talk down the UK, moan about migrants, having become one himself in Monaco.. so what he says is isn’t news, it’s racist, elitist BS❗️
The BBC has been a far right propaganda channel for 20 years or more. I renamed it a decade ago the Brexit Broadcasting Corporation.
Burnham will know of Ratcliffe, whose remorseless pursuit of UK taxpayers money included many millions for his Manchester United stadium project. Ratcliffe pays no tax here but runs down the UK, disinvests cutting jobs and is always keen to get government loot to fund his schemes. Scrounger indeed!
BetFred coverage just as bad. Platforming the greedy, exploitative millionaires.
They might as well ask Putin what he thinks about life in Britain. Unbelievable.
@andyburnham.bsky.social Do you ever watch the BBC? THey are so biased that your failure to address it means you don't or you are too craven to tackle the nettle or worse you're complict @johnswinney.bsky.social @lsrplaid.bsky.social @zackpolanski.bsky.social @eddavey.libdems.org.uk
Jim Ratcliffe, tax-dodging Brexiter billionaire living in Monaco, says the poorest and most vulnerable should have their rights & benefits removed to bolster our economy. Don’t bother telling us this rancid man’s opinions unless you say how much he’s avoided in tax and what Brexit is costing us all.
I’m still struggling to understand why the BBC thinks we are interested in what he has to say. Does having lots of money make your poltical opinions more worthwhile than everyone else’s?
Ratcliffe was a vocal Brexit supporter AND promised that his Ineos Grenadier LandRover rip-off would be built in the UK, to provide British jobs. So, of course, he took the production to the EU. The British jobs never materialised. Cakeism, on his terms. C*** of the highest order.
I was on R5Live last night discussing him and how his money clearly hasn’t brought him happiness, or insight.
Jim Ratcliffe is still peddling the myth of "trickle down economics". Trouble is, he's a liar who never let a penny of his own super-wealth trickle down because he fucked off to a tax oasis. The poor don't get more if the super-rich pay less. The poor to have less so that the super-rich have more!
As he’s in UK Radcliffe should be made to pay back taxes he’s avoided over past 5 years to help the most vulnerable people Then deported & told same will happen every time he comes over to stir shit before swanning off to his Monaco palace Instead of contributing zero and just criticizing the UK
I wonder how many of his employees are paid so little that UK tax payers have to make up their pay to a living wage via the benefits system Ratcliffe hates so much.
I take the opposite view to this rancid, tax avoiding, off-shore expat. Feed and house everyone. Tax the rich, and whilst we're at it, let's take their bloody microphones too.
Rancid fits Trump is rancid Most of USA CONGRESS IS RANCID The Supreme Court is supremely rancid six of them actually
Laura Kuenssberg asks if it bothers Labour's Bridget Phillipson that people who create jobs and pay a lot of tax, citing, Jim Ratcliffe, move abroad - except, that's not the full story. My View: Did you know companies owned by Jim Ratcliffe have received public support worth around £630 million?
Also there's no evidence they are leaving in any numbers. According to Sunday Times Rich List there were 156 billionaires in the UK in 2025, 157 in 2026. Most of this debate is based on false narratives pushed by the usual suspects and swallowed by the usual journalists. @patmillsuk.bsky.social
The BBC doing GB News job for them, again. When Ratcliffe lives in the UK and pays tax here, I might listen to what he has to say. ( probably not). Until then the tax dodging, racist Wanker can fuck right off.
🧵 Laura Kuenssberg’s hand-wringing over billionaire Jim Ratcliffe leaving the UK missed the real story. Ratcliffe heavily championed Brexit, promising Britain would thrive. But the moment it actually happened in 2020, he fled to Monaco—saving himself an estimated £4bn in tax. 📉
A lot of these so called jobs creators are more like channels for public money, creaming off a tidy profit on the way. Branson is another one who has grown very rich by farming public subsidy.
"UNELECTED FOREIGNER, Jim Ratcliffe runs Great Britain down again! The constant stream of negativity from this fighting age immigrant....." - none of the press
Basic research is no longer taught to journalists/presenters. They are either too self-important or too lazy to bother.
Jim Ratcliffe, the UK's richest man who bankrolled Brexit, then became an immigrant in Monaco to avoid British taxes thinks migrants not tax avoiding billionaires are to blame for all the UK's ills "Coming from the man who moved to Monaco to dodge a £4 billion tax bill" via Zarah Sultana
Well if he's lost confidence, the government should stop any tax paying funding and then ask him to repay what he has already had.
Not " the UK's richest man" A rich man from Monaco who possesses a UK passport Likely there are richer folk with accents that indicate they were brought up elsewhere who bought such a passport also
Still at least it gives his family an idea when it comes to a Xmas present, a mirror.
a Monaco tax exile can, quite frankly, shut the fuck up www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Tax exile Jim Ratcliffe lectures Andy Burnham, telling him to "look at what we did with Manchester United". Well, they won one trophy soon after he bought his stake, haven't won anything in the two seasons since, and are currently 13th in the league after being knocked out of the league cup.
And their stadium is literally falling apart!
See also his "success" in cycling by taking over the most successful team ever and reducing it to a team that wins nothing
Good judgment is not a permanent thing. It needs work including to listening to good advice.
And this from June 2026….the rancid fucking idiot.
Look what Ratcliffe did to Grangemouth.
Oh and the fans hate him
Jim Ratcliffe. A man so ‘patriotic’ he pushed for Brexit, then jumped ship to Monaco as a tax exile. Loves the prestige & benefits of his British knighthood, of owning a British club, and of UK tax payer money being pumped into his companies. Just not paying into the country that provides these.
Here's the thing, there are no consequences for leaving, you'll still get free tax payer money even if you don't contribute a single penny in UK tax, this could easily be changed by the government, change the tax laws to 90% if you chose to leave, remove all gongs & stop the free tax payers funding.
Well done to whoever put this up. bsky.app/profile/eddi...
Amazing how these 'brilliant billionaire businessmen' still need government handouts. Perhaps we give more support to ordinary folk who may turn out to be better businessmen and women than these frauds.
What a bended-knee craven interview. It doesn’t even mention that this tax exile is responsible for shutting Grangemouth, Scotland’s only oil refinery. A billionaire speaks and the BBC nods along like a servant
Aye. Raging. Shutting Grangemouth when we are literally at war. Even if the forties pipeline was bringing in less crude we were still getting some. Vulture Capitalist didn't even invest in a firecracker yet was given the cost of one for a Manchester 'Wembly of the North' for his Stadium development
The Brexit he wanted has broken Britain 😡 He’s a billionaire who chooses not to live and pay taxes here but expects us taxpayers to subsidise his businesses. Vile creature
'Unfortunately UK has got a bit of a green eye towards wealth at the moment." No - we're just hacked off at billionaires not paying their fair share of tax while insisting poor, disabled & elderly get less. As for zero hours contracts improving profit margins for Amazon & Ineos...
"Britain is broken" #ReformUK narrative more important for the dire #BBC never knowingly uplifting in its news feeds.
Bbc as scribe for tax avoiding right wing billionaires.
“News” output from the BBC is the voice of neoliberalism there’s very little actual journalism or analysis of content.
#Brexit supporter, tax exile in Monaco since 2020, business owner in receipt of massive UK govt subsidies, part owner of Manchester United, critic of immigration, nostalgic for The British Empire, says UK is “on the slide”. He feels he and others leaving the country have been made “uncomfortable”.
TLDR: Man with lots of money who pays no tax in the UK demands control of how UK spends the money paid by poorer people in UK taxes.
Wheres the BBC article countering his ideas or attacking ex pat billionaires for balance??
Really. Sick of ultrarich pricks, many of whom make their fortune off the back of favourable tax treatment at the expense of everyone, whinging about the situation that they have largely created.
Does he invest any of his wealth into British renewablles? BTW, there is an alternative principled United in Manchester, 100%fan owned...Eric Cantona no less is a co-owner
When do billionaires stop whining. They could just be grateful for what they have, but obscene wealth doesnt seem to fix core beliefs that someone always deserves better. Like Trump.
Tax exile or tax avoider?
From 7 @lbc.co.uk: should Andy Burnham go to the country now he’s flying high in the polls? Is platforming tax-avoiding foreign-based billionaires like Jim Ratcliffe an example of all that is wrong with this country? And will jailing parents for their kids’ crimes teach anyone a lesson? 0345 6060973
Good morning Matthew If Jim isn’t that keen on our UK, then he can F.off back to Monaco, where I believe he’s based and lives. #TaxiForJim
Well, yes, if he wants to lose his parliamentary majority. Great idea. 🙄
I don’t care how high Labour is voting in the polls. A GE is a distraction from getting this country back on track. And Reform would win more seats and improve their coverage. We need stability. Have a great show. Working this morning - so I can’t listen 😞
Tax avoidance and evasion is more of a big issue than welfare in our country. Also as a Man United supporter he can bugger off and get out of our club with the glazers too! Billionaires can afford the tax and if it means going down to a millionaire status so be it - just pure greed.
No , yes , no , That Gilet is the best a man can get .
The 'trickle down economy' didn't work so I say tax the greedy fkers. If they leave, they leave. Tax incentives maybe for those who pay their employees a decent wage and treat them fairly. Kindness pays?? Andy Burnham should not go to the polls the only poll shld be to return to the EU.
