Chad Gilbert, New Found Glory guitarist, dead at 45

Chad Gilbert, founding guitarist and principal songwriter of New Found Glory, died on the morning of September 20 at age 45, the band and his wife Lisa Cimorelli announced. The band said he passed peacefully in his sleep surrounded by friends and family, with his wife and mother at his side. Gilbert disclosed in March that he was battling brain cancer after an initial liver cancer diagnosis in 2021; doctors found three tumors pressing against his brain that later caused loss of sensation on his left side. Gilbert helped form New Found Glory in 1997 alongside Jordan Pundik, Ian Grushka, and Stephen Klein and wrote many of the band’s songs including "My Friends Over You" and "Head on Collision." He contributed guest vocals and guitar parts to projects by other artists, including Fall Out Boy, and was formerly married to Hayley Williams. Mark Hoppus called Gilbert "the most positive and creative force in any room" and praised his courage in the cancer fight. New Found Glory recalled Gilbert’s role across more than a dozen albums and worldwide tours and said his influence will remain part of the band and its performances going forward.

Man this sucks really bad. Battling both brain and liver cancer over the last few years had to have been rough. NFG is a major influence on every pop punk band I've loved of the last 2 decades. The self titled, Sticks and Stones, and Understatement are like No Skip albums

Saw NFG in 1999 at Tremont in Charlotte with not very many other people and bought their first album Nothing Gold Can Stay because they were so...honestly, so nice. Was happy to see them become a bigger thing in the following years. Don't think I realized just now that we were the same age. RIP.

Man 2026 continues to be brutal. This has hit me hard. New Found Glory is one of my favourite bands & I've been lucky to see them live numerous times This is the first time a musician dying has affected me. This band has had a huge impact on my life and also helped me discover who I am😢 RIP Chad 💙
