U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Kelly granted a 14-day temporary restraining order requiring the White House to immediately restore hard-pass press credentials for reporters at CNN, Politico and MS NOW. The order, issued in Cable News Networks, Inc. v. Trump, directs the defendants, excluding President Donald Trump, and their agents to return, reinstate and restore the revoked credentials. The media organizations’ credentials were revoked on Sept. 18, prompting the lawsuit in which the outlets accused the president of violating the First Amendment. The restraining order will remain in effect for 14 days unless the court orders otherwise. The ruling restores the outlets’ physical access to the White House while litigation proceeds and pauses the administration’s ban pending further court action.
