Organizers behind the No Kings movement have scheduled a nationwide Day of Action on Oct. 17 focused on encouraging early voting. The Sacramento Bee reports more than 10 No Kings events are already scheduled in the Sacramento area for Oct. 17, including East Sacramento, West Sacramento, Elk Grove, Roseville, Placerville, Marysville, Davis, Woodland and Fair Oaks, and additional California events in Modesto, Fresno and Santa Maria. The No Kings Coalition says new events are added daily and expects thousands of protests across the country on Oct. 17. Co-chair of Indivisible Yolo Steve Murphy said No Kings exists to stand up to a president “attempting to sabotage the midterm elections” and called voting early the next step in that fight. The organizer website and statements describe the Oct. 17 actions as nonpartisan community events where attendees are asked to bring their ballots to translate people power into voter power. In Sacramento this will be the fourth wave of No Kings protests; previous marches in March drew hundreds who walked from the river banks across Tower Bridge to the state Capitol. The timing comes as a Reuters/Ipsos poll cited in the Bee put President Donald Trump’s approval rating at 32 percent and AAA showed Sacramento gas prices near $6.27 a gallon, trends the article links to voter discontent.
