Anthropic IPO prospectus shows sweeping AI vision, surging costs

techSep 28, 2026192,631

Anthropic’s IPO prospectus, filed with Reuters access, lays out an expansive vision that the company says will make AI reshape the global economy more profoundly than industrialization, electricity and the internet while also revealing very large near-term losses and obligations. For fiscal 2025 Anthropic reported about $4.6 billion in revenue, roughly $12.65 billion in total operating expenses and an operating loss of about $8.06 billion; its GAAP net deficit widened to $41.97 billion from $8.31 billion the prior year. The filing shows cash and investments of about $20.28 billion and discloses future cloud, computing and infrastructure obligations of roughly $518 billion. Anthropic is targeting a valuation above $2 trillion in the IPO. The prospectus also warns that increasingly autonomous AI models can behave in unexpected and potentially harmful ways. The numbers underline large upcoming capital needs and place the company’s lofty valuation and safety cautions at the center of investor scrutiny as the IPO proceeds.

Reuters got some of the IPO docs. Anthropic is a total dog of a company. Spent $12.6bn to make $4.6bn in revenue in 2025, $7.33bn of which was compute costs. Operating loss of $8bn. Losses getting worse year over year. Amazing stuff www.reuters.com/business/fin...

"So, what's your company valuation?" "2 trillion dollars" "What are you basing it on?" "We lost 42 billion dollars last year" bsky.app/profile/edzi...

Few remember the ancient bygone days of spring 2026, when we were reliably told by leading technology brothers that Anthropic was actually profitable (because Anthropic had said so and only stupid fools would doubt them).

they wrecked the consumer electronics market, destroyed education, and got hundreds of thousands of people prematurely fired (some of them already rehired!) just to do... this

Sounds like the IRS should reclassify Anthropic as a hobby not a legit business since they take a loss year after year. No business loss or operating expense deductions for you, chuds!

Admittedly math is not my strong suit, but these numbers do not look like good numbers for anybody

Buying shares in Anthropic at a $2T valuation is obviously a really stupid investment that no one should make, but I also think that a company with revenue growth that big and a product as popular as theirs is gonna be fine

This is like when somebody goes onto Dragon's Den with a company that makes unicycle grease and asks for seven million pounds for 1% stake despite not yet having made a single jar of unicycle grease.
