Google Earth has published updated satellite images showing widespread destruction across Gaza, with swathes of Rafah and other districts reduced to rubble. The Independent reports that Israeli military action has damaged or destroyed the majority of housing, hospitals, schools, and other buildings across the 141 square mile territory. The article quotes journalist Bel Trew describing “torched ruins” and Member of the European Parliament Barry Andrews calling the images “quite incredible.” United Nations and aid estimates cited include 82 percent of structures and more than 90 percent of housing units damaged or destroyed according to UNOSAT, and the World Health Organization’s estimate that 90 percent of hospitals have been damaged or destroyed. A recent UN report said annual GDP per capita has fallen to $212 and 90 percent of working-age Palestinians are unemployed; only 1.5 percent of arable land is accessible and agricultural and industrial activity is down 94 percent. The Independent says there is an estimated 60 million tonnes of debris across Gaza, only one fully functioning digger reported by the Red Cross, and at least 1,129 bodies recovered from under rubble without identification. The article does not specify when Google made the image update and Google had not provided comment at the time of reporting.

For me, as a Palestinian from Gaza who survived the ongoing genocide, when I look at the rubble of homes on Google Maps, I am not seeing only the remains of buildings, which from far look like a decaying wall. I am seeing the remains of people whose bodies were crushed beneath

Google Maps has just updated its satellite view of the Gaza Strip, revealing the massive scale of destruction. It looks much like the aftermath of the scorched-earth policy the Nazis carried out after the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943.

Dash Dobrofsky Gaza in its entirety was shown on Google Earth for the first time since the war started. The satellite images exposed the mass destruction of homes, hospitals, and mosques. The images also debunked the propaganda that Benjamin Netanyahu has been espousing since the war began.
