After 41 episodes Rick Devens was crowned the winner of Big Brother season 28, defeating Taylor Brown in a 6-1 jury vote. Devens received the $750,000 grand prize and also won $50,000 as the voting viewers' favorite. The season began with three reality TV "icons", Survivor alums Rick Devens and Dee Valladares and Big Brother alum Angela Murray, who were given a guaranteed first HOH and other head-start advantages that critics say skewed the game. Devens admitted in his final plea that "there were privileges that came with being an icon." The finale included a late reveal in which Jason De Puy appeared in drag as Salina EsTitties and was introduced as a fourth icon without having received the icons' earlier advantages. Critics and some jury members pointed to the icons twist and production-created imbalance as a major asterisk on Devens' win, even as he also won two safety challenges and orchestrated key moves, including using Drew Campbell as an ally.
