Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve earns praise, players report some crashes

I think Ace Combat 8 is going to be a divisive game because it’s darker and more intense than any previous entry but in doing so makes the bold choice to be genuinely unpleasant at times. This makes it more successful in sending a “war is bad” message, but it *is* unpleasant when it choses to be.

Read that Ace Combat 0 is only ever gonna be obtained via the AC8 preorder and now that I got it, you can tell. Boots up with a controller guide like old game demos, then goes 4:3 for main menu, with gameplay in 16:9 if you turn it on. Bare bones, even the PS5 dash gives it AC8 logos/backgrounds.

#AceCombat 8: Wings of Theve officially releases in less than 5 hours. You have until then to make your pre-order if you want a ported copy of Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War as well. The developers have confirmed once again that you CANNOT get Zero after this.

I like how the new Ace Combat game is titled 'Wings of Theve', like they're being up front this time that for most of the game you won't have a clue what anyone is talking about.

(bombing schools, interestingly, is specifically called out as a reason to dislike the bad guys in ace combat 8 early on)
