Far-right figures from US, Europe and Israel to gather at conference in Israel

A National Conservatism conference opened in Jerusalem hosting US, Israeli and European far-right figures, though the White House says Sebastian Gorka will no longer attend due to a scheduling conflict. The program lists Israel’s finance minister Bezalel Smotrich, described in the agenda as a self-declared “fascist homophobe” and an internationally sanctioned extremist, and Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, who in 2023 called for an atom bomb to be dropped on Gaza and faces disciplinary proceedings for racist incitement. European attendees include Hans-Georg Maaßen, the one-time head of Germany’s domestic intelligence who faced a 2023 expulsion attempt by the CDU for “statements in the language of the milieu of antisemites and conspiracy ideologues,” and Austria’s Harald Vilimsky, a Freedom party figure whom Israel’s government has pursued a policy of non-engagement with but who has led delegations to meet Israeli leaders. The American contingent includes William Wolfe, a self-described Christian nationalist who has called for “mass deportations, denaturalizations, and remigration,” and Jonathan Keeperman, the publisher unmasked in 2024 as the person behind the far-right internet persona L0m3z. Observers note the event is a rare large-scale convergence of Israeli nationalists with Christian nationalist and far-right European figures drawn from a milieu sometimes shadowed by accusations of antisemitism, and the White House distancing of Gorka is an immediate diplomatic signal amid those controversies.
