Reform MP Sarah Pochin completed the purchase of an £800,000 Grade II listed house on the southern coast of Anglesey two days after submitting a written question on 15 June to housing minister Matthew Pennycook about the impact of second homes on rural communities. Pennycook answered that "excessive concentrations of short-term lets and second homes impact on the availability and affordability of homes for local residents to buy and rent, as well as local services." Land Registry records show Pochin bought the property jointly with her husband, Jonathan; the couple retain another home in Cheshire and have submitted plans to Anglesey county council for changes to the property. Anglesey has seen the largest increase in holiday home users among local authorities from 2011 to 2021, and as of March 2026 Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn recorded 2,635 furnished homes that are not an individual’s sole or main residence. The local authority introduced a council tax premium on second homes in 2016 and has raised it incrementally to a current 100 percent premium to address housing affordability. Local deputy council leader Robin Wyn Williams warned that high concentrations of second homes reduce school rolls, strain services, and can erode community identity.
