Ukraine-linked strikes shut third Yandex data centre, Vladimir hub down

techOct 11, 2026435,194

Yandex said a drone attack forced a complete shutdown of its Vladimir data centre east of Moscow, leaving emergency teams at the site and no reported injuries. The company reported several Yandex services unavailable and advised users to activate disaster recovery plans as its platform ran in emergency mode. Yandex warned that the remaining resource configuration was unstable and that technical support communications could be disrupted while teams assessed damage. This is the third strike on Yandex facilities in a week, after attacks on a Sasovo hub that housed two of the three supercomputers used to develop Yandex’s AI model and a Kaluga region site that was partly put out of action. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine responds in a mirror-like fashion to strikes on its data centres, and Russia has in turn hit Ukrainian data centres and telecommunications infrastructure over the past month.

And now the best part: Bot traffic from the #Yandex network has plunged to near zero following the strike on its Vladimir data center. Bot traffic includes automated requests from search crawlers, scrapers and other online services. Twitter must be a ghost town by now.

Jooooohhhh No!88

What a weird world we live in - Ukraine hits a data centre deep in Russia - Irish twitter users see racist posts about IPAS centres in Offaly fall off a cliff

I just looked at what Yandex actually does (I knew it had a search engine and a few other interests) and my God no company should be permitted to do all of that

Tempting to check if any suspect accounts have suddenly gone quite here. 😎

Ukraine attacked American midterm elections interference!

Rappel que la Russie essaye de mettre en place un internet fermé (suivant le modèle chinois), ce qui devient difficile si leurs datacenters sont mis offline. Ah bah oui, les calculateurs dans des sites en surface sont des objectifs stratégiques.

Trump will now probably accuse Zelensky of election interference when the Republicans lose the mid term elections because suddenly the amount of pro-fascist social media messages drop off a cliff.

This is an interesting story - probably worth keeping an eye on in coming days too, cos that data centre isn’t coming back online overnight 😬

The Yandex datacenter in Vladimir received drone sanctions, and is currently being migrated to the cloud. According to the Yandex status board, all Yandex services are completely unavailable in Russia. Maybe targeting our datacenters was a bad idea. Enjoy your digital detox.📵
