RJ Mitte died Monday in Brownsville, Texas, at age 34, his representatives confirmed. No cause of death was given; the Brownsville Police Department said no foul play was suspected and Cameron County justice of the peace Cyndi Hinojosa said an autopsy would be performed. Born with cerebral palsy, Mitte drew on that experience to play Walter White Jr. from age 15 on 56 episodes of AMC’s Breaking Bad. Mitte used his platform to advocate for disability representation and led a philanthropic organization focused on the disabled community, Bryan Cranston said in a tribute calling him “my sweet son.” Costars Aaron Paul and Dean Norris also paid tribute after the news broke. In a 2015 interview he said disabled actors must “show the inner strength that people have,” a stance he carried into his advocacy and later acting roles including appearances on Switched at Birth and The Guardians of Justice.
