Olivia Rodrigo released a remix of "expectations" featuring Chappell Roan and a retro-styled music video directed by Bardia Zeinali. The clip stages Rodrigo and Roan in vintage game-show sets inspired by Family Feud and Hollywood Squares, with David Byrne cameoing as Johnny Johnson, host of a fictional show called "Great Expectations." Roan makes his feature film debut in the video and sings a new verse that includes the lines, "I thought it would be fun so I took her to a concert in the front row... He said he'd call me later, that was three weeks ago / Classic Los Angeles behavior, he could have just said no." Producer Dan Nigro, who produced both artists' albums and the original "Expectations," appears at the end of the video with a giant 1990s telephone prop. Speaking with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Roan called the project a first feature-film experience and praised Rodrigo's songwriting, while Rodrigo said she asked Byrne to appear and that he improvised a character and ad-libs throughout the shoot. Rodrigo and Roan share a history on tour: Roan supported Rodrigo on the Sour and Courage tours and performed at Rodrigo's Daisy Chain Fields Festival in late August alongside Doechii, Rachel Chinouriri, Garbage, and the Breeders.
