TikTok permanently suspended the promotional account for Alex Gibney’s documentary Musk just as the film expanded to nearly 500 North American screens. Distributor Bleecker Street told The Hollywood Reporter it was informed of the permanent suspension Friday and is appealing TikTok’s decision. Alex Gibney, the documentary filmmaker behind Going Clear and The Inventor, completed a four hour probe of Elon Musk that has already drawn public ire from Musk, who has called Gibney names such as “idiot” and “horrible human.” The suspension was reported exclusively by The Hollywood Reporter and comes amid the film’s nationwide rollout this week. Bleecker Street’s appeal and the film’s simultaneous expansion make the next developments likely to hinge on whether TikTok restores the account while theatrical bookings continue to grow.
