Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss the remainder of the season after doctors discovered multiple blood clots in his lungs, the team and his agent Nicole Lynn announced. Specialists in London initially diagnosed a left calf superficial vein thrombosis, then upgraded the diagnosis to deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli following additional testing and monitoring. Ian Rapoport reported Hurts was in a London hospital until 4 a.m. before the Eagles’ game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and then played while having been awake for roughly 36 hours because doctors had warned sleep posed a risk. The Eagles and Hurts said he is clinically stable, is receiving blood thinners, cannot participate in contact activities during treatment, and is expected to recover fully without long-term effects. Tom Pelissero and Rapoport noted there are unanswered questions about what team doctors knew before kickoff and how Hurts was cleared to play. The team must now proceed without its starting quarterback for months, and Hurts will be able to return to football once he is no longer on anticoagulant therapy.
