BioWare shuts down, next Mass Effect canceled

I suppose the closure of Bioware means that the responsibility of continuing the Mass Effect canon falls to me. Well boys, first up- everyone in your squad is dateable, no humans allowed on my ship, and krogan balls are to be placed on my face at 0600 hours. There will be no exceptions.

A legendary house. Dragon Age Origins opened my eyes to CRPGs. The Mass Effect trilogy changed how I saw game narrative and character.

Surprised so many are attributing the BioWare shutdown to the Saudi sale when the studio was rudderless for so, so long. EA planted the seeds here ages ago. Maybe the sale was the catalyst but it wasn’t the core reason.

Bioware shutdown hurts. I know that they weren't what they used to be, but they were historic and important. Neverwinter Nights, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age were super important to me and got me thru some really rough times. Incredibly sad to see the studio go.

This is basically how I felt about the Mass Effect series. "No but see in the sequel you work for the space nazis because they bring you back to life AND make a better ship than multiple alien cultures working together could." "How?" "They're Nazis, who are the best at science" 🫠

I'm not sure how to feel. Bioware has been my favorite gaming company since the late 90s. I hated it when EA bought them, and now that Saudi Arabia bought EA a few months ago... I'm not surprised. I just thought that they would at least finish Mass Effect 5 first. 😔 I'm numb. Maybe I'll cry later.

Oh man. I know we could all kinda smell on the wind that EA was gonna shutdown Bioware but it still sucks pretty bad.

Learning that EA has shutdown BioWare and that the new Mass Effect will now never happen…

I don‘t want to over claim here but a nontrivial part of what ails our culture can be directly attributed to a deranged response to Mass Effect

Bioware news is devastating but not surprising. Hate capitalism and I will forever loathe what EA did to a great studio. Mass Effect, Dragon Age, KOTOR and Jade Empire were such massive influences to my creative process. Will always hold them fondly in my heart ♥️

Mass Effect got me through tough times. Including the loss of two of my grandparents, one of whom I was named after. Dragon Age as well. I love both universes so much. I fell in love with the companions from each entry in both franchises. And I will never stop loving them, replaying them. ❤️

Some silly comics I sketched while playing ME for the first time back in 2024. I absolutely adored the Dragon Age series and I had such a blast finally playing Mass Effect. Thank you Bioware 💙

I know everyone is rightly mourning DA and Mass Effect (I am too), but I feel it important to point out that while a lot of it is hit or miss modern Star Wars does not exist without BioWare, either. We owe so much to them, for real, all the way down.

BioWare being shutdown is truly the end of an era. This is what happens when you let C-suite execs and stakeholders make all the decisions, solely based off of unrealistic profit margins, rather than creating quality games by talented people who genuinely care about what they do.
