The Duchess of Sussex said she was told in 2018 that the Metropolitan Police had received a letter alleging disturbing conduct by her estranged father, Thomas Markle. Meghan said the letter outlining the allegations was shared with her and she was given assurance those claims were being investigated; she described herself as "deeply distressed" and called the allegations "more sickening than one could ever imagine." The remarks follow media reports that images of child sexual abuse allegedly linked to Thomas Markle were found at his former home in the Philippines, which he denies. Meghan said she kept her distance from her father and did not allow him contact with her children to protect them, adding she had trusted authorities were protecting other families as well. Philippine officials say an anti-human trafficking and child sexual exploitation task force in Cebu is investigating, police have secured Thomas Markle Sr's computer for a digital forensic examination, and ministers expect forensic results in about one week.
