Nicolas Jackson scored twice as Aston Villa beat Manchester City 2-1, ending City's 100% winning start to the Premier League season. City had taken maximum points from their first seven league games but fell to Villa, who have now won five of their past seven meetings with City and recorded a fourth successive win against them at Villa Park. Villa captain John McGinn seized on a poor touch by Marc Guehi to set up Jackson for the opener, and Erling Haaland nodded in an equaliser early in the second half from Iliman Ndiaye's cross. Eight minutes after Haaland's goal Jackson met substitute Ibrahim Mbaye's low cross with a first-time finish that beat Gianluigi Donnarumma and proved decisive. Zion Suzuki made several important saves, and Ian Maatsen cleared a late goalbound Haaland header to preserve the win, Villa's first home league victory of the season. Jackson has seven goals in 11 games in all competitions for Villa, and City remain top of the table but now lead by three points ahead of Arsenal's match against Everton.
